These three threads highlight the same nacent @JoeBiden Admin U.S. National Security Administration chaos that led to the debacle in Afghanistan. Only this time the disaster is still avoidable if @SecBlinken and @JakeSullivan act.

The next two threads provide additional background which brings us up to date with the current crisis, which is at a very dangerous point.

The Govt of Ethiopia ceasefire which @AsstSecStateAF Godec welcomed in his HOR testimony & said he would support, but did not, has failed.

@AsstSecStateAF After a full month of TPLF terrorist incursions into other parts of Ethiopia, beginning mid July two weeks after the hearing, the Ethiopia National Defence Forces are poised to mount a final offensive against the TPLF in an effort to end this 10 month war.

The U.S. Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa departed yesterday and should by now be on the ground in the region beginning his peace efforts. However as a result of the gross mismanagement of the conflict his presence in the region is far from welcome.

This thread begins with a link to a commentary which captures how many Ethiopians are feeling right now about the current crisis and US Envoy Jeffrey Feltman's peace mission.

This thread is 4 days old, as the crescendo of the drums of war grew ever louder. It is an attempt to crystalise the insanity of the current situation that the Govt. of Ethiopia faces. A rebel opponent which is a long time U.S. proxy terror force.

Whether it is because of deliberate malevolence, depraved indifference, or just distraction - Trump + Covid + the July 6th Insurrection - the U.S. Govt. has spectacularly dropped the ball on Ethiopia. And a disaster now looms, for Africa and the world.

The tiny window of opportunity for a calamity to be avoided is rapidly closing. The @StateDpet is leading IC efforts - which is right as they are the creators and sponsors of TPLF. And only prompt U.S. action can bring this unfolding FP catastrophe.

The next Tigray War when it starts will be far worse than that started by the TPLF in November last year, it has the hallmarks of a conflict that could cascade through the Horn of Africa Region and create problems for the U.S. for decades ahead.

This is a five alarm news fire.
