Here is how you can help our Afghan friends! Houston is on the process of welcoming many families to our fine, diverse city. One family just landed tonight! Donate to @thealliancetx to help! 1/
Houston welcomed thousands of refugees from Vietnam decades ago. We have already welcomed many Afghan families, but more are on the way. @thealliancetx needs monetary donations, furniture & bedding. More info here: 2/
They also need refugee rental housing, especially apts & houses that have several bedrooms for kids. The funding for that is fairly limiting, so would need affordable options with landlords willing to waive certain fees. If that’s you, contact @thealliancetx. 3/
Most refugee families get their start around Hillcroft/Gulfton neighborhoods because it’s close to services & affordable apts. It’s also why the food is so good on Hillcroft! ☺️
Houston, this is how you can help. I know you can! 4/ end thealliancetx.org/support-for-si…
A new Houston family from Kabul arrived last night. Will they have all the resources they need? Will other families? @thealliancetx will make sure they do. Help here: thealliancetx.org/refugee-servic…

After covering the #covid19 vaccine rollout for the past 48 hours, the main thing I’ve learned is this: outside of frontline medical personnel, hospital system VIPs, & the separate federal nursing home rollout, it’s sort of each man for himself. 1/
If you’re a patient-facing medical worker for a major hospital: Methodist, Hermann, HCA, etc. You probably already got a #Covid19 vaccine last week. Next best bet is to be staff, volunteer, or board member for a hospital chain. 2/
Next best bet: being a medical worker in private practice or a staffer. Smaller Doc. groups, Next Level & other urgent care chains, @HEB & other local pharmacies will administer vaccine if you have a medical ID. 3/
While the @TXMedCenter, @MethodistHosp, & others saying “we have capacity” yesterday in public, internal email shows 600 staffers have tested positive for #covid19, they’re hiring travel nurses, & admins are asked to pick up shifts. 🤨🤨
And since we’re here, I’d like to point out local doctors I have spoken with would like to see @texmed, @TXMedCenter, & other med groups take a more aggressive #covid19 stance. Tell #txlege & electeds what’s really up, compel them to act.
I have some other stuff related to all this, but it’s late, so I’ll send it out on another day. But, a reminder that a hospital bed means nothing if you don’t have a human to take care of you. So #MaskUp friends!
