EDMONTON – Albertans are suffering in extreme pain, and some are even dying while waiting for surgery, diagnostics, or treatment, according to a recent report. 🧵 Image
The report revealed that more than 15,000 Canadians died in 2023-24 alone before receiving surgery or diagnostic information. But there is a huge hole in the data so the think tank believes that number could be higher.
“What’s the hole? Well, Danielle Smith and the UCP have stopped tracking and reporting that data,” said Sarah Hoffman, Alberta NDP Shadow Minister for Health.

Yesterday, Alberta Health Services reported that every Edmonton hospital is pushing patients into hallways in an attempt to free up space in overwhelmed emergency rooms. 🧵1/8
Hallway medicine is an urgent signal of a healthcare system in crisis. My heart goes out to all the Albertans who are being treated in a busy hospital hallway, to their families, and all the frontline healthcare professionals being forced into this situation. 2/8
Early August is supposed to be the quieter time of year for emergency rooms. I'm deeply concerned about where we will be in the early fall when respiratory illnesses and other demands on our hospitals traditionally increase. 3/8

Since the start of the school year the #UCP refused to contact-trace cases of #COVID19 in #abed schools & they didn’t require close contacts to isolate. We know via a leaked document the UCP deliberately covered up info gathered by AHS about the spread of #Covid19 in schools. 1/3
The document shows numerous schools with dozens of confirmed #COVID19 cases in the Central Zone. @JasonCoppingAB and @AdrianaLaGrange had this information and they covered it up. They hid it from students, staff and families at these schools. That is gross negligence. 2/3
This report only describes the Central Zone. There are four other zones. These reports must be released immediately and the #UCP must commit to updating them on a daily basis. The cover-up has got to end. #ableg #abed 3/3

#ableg documents prove that @AdrianaLaGrange lied to Albertans about maintaining school funding. We knew #abed Budget 2019 was short of school districts' June expectations, but now we have proof it's also $135 million below 2018 funding levels. 1/4
@AdrianaLaGrange Minister @AdrianaLaGrange can't spin this away. Documents from her own dept, found by @albertateachers through a FOIP request, leave no doubt that @jkenney is paying for his $4.7B corporate handout by taking away from Alberta schoolchildren and their families. #ableg #abed
@AdrianaLaGrange @albertateachers @jkenney Taking EAs away from kids with complex needs, making bus rides longer, crowding more and more kids into classrooms, sticking parents with hundreds of dollars in new fees - this all started with @AdrianaLaGrange's cuts to school funding.
