If you sell something online (or want to)

Here are 7 online business mistakes that should be avoided sooner rather than later

(unless you're happy making less money... or none at all)

// THREAD //
1) Your offer sucks

Everyone gets into this whole online business thing and follows the cliche advice:

"Learn a skill, sell the skill"

Or for coaches "just start helping people and eventually charge"

This goes for digital products as well

This is ok, don't get me wrong
But you position yourself as a commodity

You limit how much you can charge

You will get the same "I need to think about it" on sales calls

You will get stuck in the DM outreach trap and waste hours of precious time

What's the solution?
Give people something they can't refuse.

How?

Understand their situation to a T and CREATE a solution that is guaranteed to fix it

What can you learn, leverage, combine, add, or remove that will make it impossible for them to fail?
This comes from experience and iteration (improving your offer over time based off of results / feedback)

OR

Leverage what is already working and learn how to deliver it

Study your competition (that is making money)

See what they have that you don't

Then steal it
2) Your content sucks

AKA people don't trust you.

You aren't able to monetize your audience

You are only creating surface level "feel good" content that people like - but they don't connect with you enough to buy

This is the easiest content to create, so I get it
How do you fix this?

The Social Matrix

70% growth content
20% authority content
10% authenticity content

Doing this right leads to leverage

All of them overlap and work in unison

How do you use this system?
For growth content...

Content that always does well (evergreen)

Basic advice - BUT from the perspective of your own unique experiences (IMPORTANT)

This is top of funnel content that attracts people to your page

Now, you have to build trust and authority
For authority content...

This is what will bring you sales

This is actionable content based on the problems your target market is experiencing

(do market research to understand problems)

If you are a fitness coach - give people actionable fitness advice
If you are a marketing dude - give people actionable marketing insights

DO NOT HOLD BACK

People will still buy from you

You can also post client / customer results (social proof)

Promotions also fall under this category as selling a good product is an authority booster
For authenticity content...

This builds trust, relatability, and likeability with your audience

This can be done through actual posts, or in the replies (being a cool person interacting with other creators)
The best way to do this:

- Tell your story
- Post about your likes and interests
- Document what you are doing in real life
- Give advice that is contrary to what people in your niche are saying

(example: cold showers suck)

This will make people feel like they know you
3) Your promotions suck (or don't exist)

Non marketing and sales people don't understand marketing and sales

In other words you are hoping and praying that people buy your stuff

The solution is simple

Learn it yourself, hire somebody, or buy a course
Also

If you don't have a funnel in place that automates your sales

AND you never promote your products / lead magnet

You can't complain about clients or sales not coming in

(This happens more often than you think)
4) Your systems suck

I'm not even talking business systems here, those are good

But, the reason you:

- Have no free time
- Can't come up with content ideas
- Can't branch out to different social channels
- Don't promote consistently
- Have a backlog of high priority tasks
- You can't overcome limiting beliefs
- You procrastinate all your work

Is because you lack systems.

You are a solo business owner

You ARE your manager

That means, if your daily performance sucks, your business growth sucks (or is non existant)

How do you fix this?
- Fix your sleep quality
- Have an energizing morning routine
- Learn how to (fully) focus for 2-4 hours
- Work on the things you enjoy
- Implement regular brain dumps
- Create SOPs for your life and biz
- Write down EVERYTHING

This will make you efficient
5) Your awareness sucks

I'm not talking self awareness (which is also a powerful business trait)

But the customer levels of awareness

1 - Unaware of their problem
2 - Aware of their problem
3 - Aware of a solution
4 - Aware of YOUR solution
5 - Highly aware (just need a push)
Your content, emails, and lead magnets must raise them up these awareness levels

Your growth content attracts them in

Your authority content makes them aware of their problem (and solution)

Your emails are sequenced in a way that raises them from 1-5

And then you ask to buy
6) Your perspective sucks

Most online business owners never get past the $10k/month mark

Not because of lack of skill, but lack of belief

Sounds "woo-woo" but its more than true

Some are still afraid to charge more than $1k for their services
This ties back into your offer, but you should aim to charge $5k-$10k

(This is variable, of course)

But once you have results...

You can work with bigger fish

You can charge higher prices

You can bust through those mental stalls that, almost perpetually, holds people back
7) Your positioning sucks

You don't have a compelling USP

Your ideal customer isn't clear (and probably can't afford your services - forcing you to undersell yourself)

Your unique mechanism doesn't exist

There is nothing that sets you apart from the competition
WHAT DO YOU HAVE THAT OTHERS DON'T

What do your customers want that others don't offer?

This goes back full circle to #1 - your offer sucks

You didn't take your time to study your customer and dive deep into their business processes

This is how you create the perfect solution
BONUS

8) You DON'T build an audience

You can rely on cold outreach and other's audiences (FB groups, paid promos, paid ads)

That's fine.

It works.

But imagine if your customers came to you - AND you had other offers in place that increased your revenue
Plus, building an audience is just fun

You get to talk about all of your interests and play to the platforms game

Then when it comes time to sell - you get very specific (and follow the social matrix)

It's free real estate!
That's it for this thread.

How often are you in a bad mood?

Here’s one simple trick to (almost instantly) get out of it

A thread:
Tell me if this sounds familiar...

A problem pops into your head.

A problem you've had before.

A problem that you start to focus on a bit too much.
It starts to take over your mind. It's the only thing you think about now, and the problem get's bigger until it completely saps your energy.

This is not good.

I fucked around and spun my wheels for years

I don't want you to do the same

Here's a fast-tracked roadmap to your first $5K on social media

thread:
Who is this post for?

Those that have a skill, information, or expertise that they want to sell via a digital product or freelance/coaching service.

The last thing I want is for people to be spinning their wheels and overthinking what they need to do to make money.
Refining your offer, marketing, and promotional tactics are great - but if they take your focus away from lever-moving tasks, you won't get anywhere.

Your marketing can be the best in the business but if it isn't in front of people's faces then it is all in vain.

Nobody want's to be a starving artist.

I've helped dozens of creators, coaches, and freelancers hit their first 5 figure months.

Here are 5 similarities that held them back:
1) Poor Positioning

Especially in the creative / information based niches

- Graphic design
- Web design/dev
- Writing
- Mindset / "life" coaching
- Self improvement
- Even some marketers (ironic)

How do you solve poor positioning?

By going deep instead of wide.
I'm a firm believer in building a "wide" (personal) brand

But having products / services that position themselves deeply in that audience

This happens with specificity

- Market research
- Customer avatar
- Understanding deep pains
- TALKING to your target on the phone

Your Entire Marketing Strategy In One Sentence

If you are struggling to make consistent product sales / land high paying clients

This is for you...

// THREAD //
To make things extremely simple, we are going to turn your entire marketing strategy into a one-sentence description.

This will help you regain clarity when you fall off track.

I learned about this sentence from Dan Henry
Before we dive into what it actually is, we need other parts of our marketing locked down.

// Your Ideal Customer //

Your ideal customer is the person you would enjoy working with. They have more than enough funds to afford your service without being needy or annoying.
