Places of worship restricted to 1/3rd of capacity and masking plus physical distancing; schools will have mandatory masking grades (4, I think?) and up

As someone who will be missing my beloved Uncle's funeral service on Friday (election) things having gone the way they have breaks my heart. My Uncle had asked for a delayed celebration of life in the hopes COVID would be under control & restrictions safely lifted.
He gave so much of his life and love to healthcare for Albertans and in particular the Foothills Hospital. I miss him terribly but am glad he didn't have to see people protesting the hospital he loved so much.

When the Liberal campaign started journos had a question and a follow up. Follow ups are important because often politicians don't answer the initial question. Now LPC is telling reporters one question each with no follow up, or q & follow but not everyone gets a question #Elxn44
The Liberals have a hard 20 minutes on the media availability each day - that has been consistent since the beginning of the campaign. Media are on that plane with the explicit purpose of access to the leader and to cover the campaign. This is making it much harder to do that.
This is also a continuation of what the Liberal government was doing during the pandemic - the only way to be sure you got a question was to show up in person but there was only *one* follow up for all of the reporters there.

Journalism is about accurately reporting what happened. We ask uncomfortable questions to get facts. There is nothing inappropriate about reporters asking if the rocks thrown at Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau struck him. That’s key to describing what unfolded accurately.
We don’t report someone threw rocks & they may or may not have struck someone. The rock throwing matters and so does whether they struck or hurt someone. They hit media travelling with the Liberals too. This isn’t insensitive and reporters like @AbigailBimman are doing their job
The RCMP will be asking the exact same question.

This quote from @ldobsonhughes excellent piece (higher up in thread retweeted below). There have been consistent attempts by senior govt officials to insist everything went great & conflate criticism of the speed/agility of GOC response as a criticism of troops on the ground
It took days to get government briefings together and then when they were held, very little information was given or questions answers. Concerns raised by those on the ground who are in direct communication with journalists was treated dismissively.
There has been a bizarre how-dare-you feeling to any critiques or questions about why things weren't being done better, faster, more efficiently or compassionately.

Our job as journalists isn't to praise. It's to question. That's not an agenda, it's a free press.

Liberal leader Justin Trudeau announces pledge to hire 7,500 new doctors and nurses. Similar pledge as 2019. Trudeau cites backlog in healthcare system. Attacks O’Toole accusing him of wanting privatization. Background on announcement attached #Elxn44 Image
Trudeau defends Liberal edited video that Twitter flagged as manipulated media saying Libs also posted full video.
Trudeau says he supports sanctions on the Taliban “The Taliban is a terrorist entity” says they are terrorists and they harbour terrorists.

Does not answer my question directly about whether Cdn govt is negotiating with Taliban to get evacuees out safely as other countries are

The Liberal campaign (via @cafreeland’s account) have tweeted out a video of Conservative leader Erin O’Toole talking about healthcare. Twitter has flagged it as manipulated media on the French tweets. Video has been edited. Lib campaign says they also tweeted full vid #Elxn44
The Libs edited out O’Toole talking about universal access being paramount. On the other hand he is clearly praising privatizing elements of healthcare in the full length video too.
Important note that we don’t know why Twitter flagged the French video but not the English version.
