The UNSC members will convene for consultations on the political situation in Somalia. The UK government requested the meeting to discuss the current crisis & its potential impact on the electoral process & security- per sources.

During the closed-door meeting, the council members will explore the potential role the UN body can play in reducing the tensions & how to prevent further escalation. They will listen to the opinion of the UN envoy to Somalia, according to diplomats familiar with the matter.

Some members are concerned about the open row between Somali leaders which has distracted from the country's adherence to the electoral calendar, they are keen to review the situation, others supposedly did not believe the involvement is appropriate-per diplomatic sources.

These tensions between President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo & Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble have renewed fears of armed clashes in the capital. Council members may urge a peaceful resolution of the political conflict & call for increased dialogue.
