Happy 97th World LSR anniversary to Malcolm Campbell and the Sunbeam Bluebird from #DavesCarIDService. Powered by a 350 HP Sunbeam V12 aircraft engine, they set a land speed record of 146 mph on this date in 1924 at Pendine Sands, UK.
Apologies to readers as I have been traveling of late and shirking my car ID duties. But please keep those family album mystery car photos coming - and remember to use the #DavesCarIDService hashtag.
Always delighted to help out my ol' pal @TracesofTexas. The late model creampuffs here (L-R) are 1950 Olds, 1951 Studebaker, 1950 Olds, 1950 Plymouth, 1951 Olds, 1950 Cadillac. Flanking the Plymouth to rear are 1947 Chevy & 1947 Cadillac.
*Newest car I see in the photo is a 1952 Olds Holiday 88 convertible yonder on the right. @TracesofTexas readers have ID'd location as 600-800 N Lamar. Why can't we have this Austin anymore?
*now that I think of it, I did get to see @Kathy_Valentine and the Bluebonnets rock the Grand Opening of the Jaguar dealership on West 5th street, not far from this location.
Aunt Grace and her scene-stealing wonder dog Peg are with a 1929 Chevy sedan, in pretty good shape for the late 1940s. I have fond memories of a HS girlfriend from Dakota City, twin city to Humboldt. Also hometown of 60 Minutes' Harry Reasoner.
These dapper Southside lads (ht @AcrosstheKill) are perched on a 1938 Pontiac.
Kind of a Mommy Dearest vibe in this photo dated June 1966, and one suspects the girl would run off to Woodstock a few years later. Cars are 1966 Pontiac LeMans or Tempest in driveway, and 1962 Tempest in garage.
Aussie cars aren't my strong suit, but pretty sure Kate is alongside a 1966-67 Holden HR. Resemblance to a similar year Chevy Nova or Chevelle is not coincidental, Holden was GM's Down Unda subsidiary.
It must be Pontiac day today; these Quebecois newlyweds are off to stress test the box springs of Niagara Falls in a 1939 Pontiac.
Comrade cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin is posing with his 1965 Matra Djet. Not a Soviet car, but a French model given to Gagarin by the French government. 966cc engine, weaksauce compared to the NASA boys' L88 Corvettes.
*Cosmonaut Matra DJet: 61 cubic inches, 80 horsepower
Astronaut Corvettes: 427 cubic inches, massively underestimated 430 horsepower (more like 500+).

USA! USA! USA!
Great photo, but car at the moment is a bit of a stumper; I am leaning ~1924 Chevy, but timing cover isn't quite exact
Grandma's gone Gidget at the Ocean Gardens, doing a swimsuit shot with a 1954 Chevy. To left is a 1949 Oldsmobile.
These linksmen are with a 1962 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop, might be an SS, or maybe even an SS 409 of Beach Boys fame.
Lack of kerosene cowl lamps suggests T is 1921-24 vintage, and a Rolls Silver Ghost is a mighty fancy car for Marshalltown. I wonder if native Marshalltownian (and fellow U of Iowa Hawkeye) @TobyHuss knew these folks.
*You may know Toby Huss as Sinatra's illegitimate filthy crooner son Rudy Casoni, or as the voice of Cotton Hill who famously only drove a Cadillac car (a 1985 Fleetwood Brougham)
**There are troubling inconsistencies to the actual model of Cotton Hill's Cadillac car, which I will have to discuss with @DrinkVictory
Hmm. Very late 1940s at earliest, as truck is a 1948-52 Ford F-1. Also odd that someone sent photos all the way from North Dakota to San Antonio Texas for processing.
Somebody left a sacrifice of a 1937 Ford to the Guatemalan tiki god (ht @tusenoch)
Now there's the face of a man who has seen it all, including a 1948 Pontiac.
Not 100% sure, but I believe these 3 brothers in aura-glowing shirts are on the running board of a 1924ish Studebaker Standard 6.
A 1946-47 Pontiac Streamliner, which appears to be almost as roomy as the house.
Packing up the luggage in a 1932 Dodge DB sedan.
Now time to knock off a few street and wilderness finds: the two surviving Monkees are in a survivor 1946-47 Hudson coupe.
A couple of Studebakers playing hide-and-seek in Iowa: 1941-47 M series pickup left, and 1952 Commander right
Pretty certain it's a 1928 Chevy or Pontiac 2 door sedan.
1957 Chevy. Old pickups don't die, they just fade away.
It is indeed a 1936 Ford pickup, so maybe I should watch more Star Trek
Clocking out for the day, back tomorrow for more mystery car solutions. And for you DCIDS Substack subscribers, sorry for the hiatus - I will be back on the case with a couple of issues in the chamber this week.

Happy Motoring!

Latest #CFBMarbleGame rankings are out: ND now #1, 3-way SEC tie at #2 with Alabama, Georgia & Arkansas
*brief reminder of the rules:

Every P5 team (+Notre Dame & BYU) starts with 200 marbles, all other FBS team starts with 100.

Beat an opponent at home or neutral site, take 20% of their marbles; beat an opponent on the road, take 25% of their marbles.
example: Iowa has 321 marbles (#9) and UMD has 289 marbles (#15). They play at UMD Friday night.

If Iowa wins they take away 72 of UMD's marbles and jump (temporarily at least) to #1.

If UMD wins they will take 64 of Iowa's marbles and jump (temporarily at least) to #2.

Today's episode of #DavesCarIDService is brought to you by the all new 1956 Gaylord Gladiator. Visit your local dealer today and get inside a Gaylord! ImageImage
yes it was real and spectacular, a project of the Gaylord brothers of Chicago whose father invented the bobby pin. They spent their bobby pin inheritance on bringing this $17k ($200k in 2021 money) dream car to market, but it never really made it past prototype stage.
They actually contracted Zeppelin of Germany (yes the Hindenburg people) to make the bodies, and they ran Cadillac 365 engines. Only 3 were ever made, and the only customers King Farouk and Hollywood star Dick Powell. After production issues and lawsuits, Gaylord was kaput. Image

Nothing says "emerging artist" like the 50 year old crackhead son of the president of the United States whose heretofore artistic medium was brokering oil & gas deals in Ukraine
