#Engineering Opportunities in #OilandGas Sector – Part 2
#CivilEngineering
While you study Civil Engg, please study modules such as 1) Industrial Structure 2) Powerplant Structure 3) Offshore Structures which will boost knowledge in Engg & design. Those who did Diploma, it is recommended to do a degree for more job opportunities & career growth. (3/18)
Those who are interested in Masters, you may choose fields like Offshore Technology, Engineering Design, Structural Engg, Industrial Engg, Construction Engineering & Management. Masters will enhance your technical capability & will have better chance among others. (4/18)
After done with Civil degree, some go to work for Infrastructure development projects. This is good if working in a large firm such as L&T (just an example). Some joins Government bodies, Roadworks, or start own consultant firm for flats and bungalows based (5/18)
on the interest & immediate job availability. There is an option to choose Engineering & design firms as well.
Engineering firms in Oil & Gas sector will give exposure to Onshore / Offshore designs, likely to get higher salary in a long term path and the experience (6/18)
will be appreciated after gaining years of experience. We call the design companies as EPC companies. EPC stands for Engineering, Procurement and Construction. Certain companies only do Engineering only, and Procurement / Construction maybe done by others. (7/18)
This sector includes FPSO (Floating Production Storage & Offloading), Offshore/Onshore plants.
In design firms, Civil & Structural engineer will have exposure to following:
Power plant (including Turbines, Boilers), Onshore plants, Offshore platform, FPSO modules (8/18)
Software skills: AutoCAD
Structural analysis & design Onshore: Stadd Pro, Offshore: SACS

Onshore design:
- Civil foundation works, pavement design

- Structural analysis & design of structure both RCC and structure

- Review of Structural Drawings / RCC drawings (9/18)
Power Plant Design: Boiler foundation & steel structure, Bunker, Silo, Fuel handling design, Chimney design
Power plant design, onshore plant design will have both civil and structural engineering whereas Offshore platform & FPSO modules will have only structural engg. (10/18)
Offshore / FPSO structure design (Topsides & Hull structure):
Hull stool design, Structural design (Primary, secondary structure) for operating conditions, Fatigue & Blast analysis, Transit analysis , Module Load-out analysis, Lifting Analysis & weighing analysis (11/18)
Civil Engineering videos:
youtube.com/c/CivilEnginee…

Modules lessons for Offshore structures (actual design calculations may vary):
(12/18)
Offshore platform introduction:

FPSO in brief:

FPSO Module Fabrication (sample):
(13/18)
Below are some of the Companies to explore (includes Manufacturer firms, Engineering/Design (EPC) firms.
Manufacturer firms for Compressors, Gas turbines, Generators: Solar, GE, Man Turbo, Mitsubishi, L&T, BHEL, Bachmann, Siemens etc. (14/18)
Engineering/Design Companies:
Chennai: Amec Foster Wheeler, Petrofac, Technip, McDermott, Ramboll, OilTech Engg, Mott MacDonald, RSN Engg, Shriram EPC, United Oil & Gas Engg, Fichtner Consulting, KBR, Kavin Engg (Coimbatore), Cameron (Coimbatore) (15/18)
Bangalore: Valdel Engineers, Nauvata Engg, Sidvin Outotec Engg, SBM Nauvata, Worley
Few of above are also located in Singapore, Malaysia.
After starting as Civil/Structural Engineer, you will have growth to Senior / Lead Engineer & Manager based on years of experience. (16/18)

So lets start.
While you study Mech Engg, please check and take if there is any special modules as Pressure vessels, Heat Exchangers, Pumps, Compressors, Gas Turbines (2/n)
If you have done Mech Engg degree, you may do Masters in you have interest in fields like Offshore Technology, Engineering Design, Energy Engineering, Industrial Engineering. Masters will enhance your technical capability & will have better chance among others. (3/n)
