Two (of the many) reasons are 1) the presence of strong campuses and, 2) the presence of global, often Dutch found and hardware-oriented, companies. #Semicon #HighTech #Branport #Eindhoven 2/4
As value continuous to shift from Hardware to Software, we see a set of enabling dependent priorities to secure their future vision and market position.
💎 1. Integrate ‘data and analytics’ everywhere along the value chain
🔧 2. Future engineering practices

It is regrettable that Raghuram Rajan (RR), Ex Governor RBI, is losing no opportunity trying to derail the India story hence, needs to be rebutted point-wise:

He says India’s ‘anti minority’ image will lead to loss of market.

Record exports 670 billion in FY22 entering the top 10 exporting countries.

Recently, #japan signed up to invest 42 B in next 5 yrs, India signed free trade agreement with #australia set to double trade in next 5 yrs, FTA will be signed with UK before Diwali this year….2/8
& signed whole host of #tech agreements with US in areas ranging from the skies above to the bottom of the seas below.

Indian economy set to grow between 8 to 9 percent this year.

Hence, forget losing, India set to gain market #india hugely in coming years….3/8

A 🧵on the #Dmitrievsky #Chemical Plant explosion and fire. On @Twitter I mostly post on Data Security (20year as a CxO and #Votehacking. But I also have 9 years as CEO and longer on BODs of #AdvancedMaterials / #NanoMaterials.
The extreme damage, perhaps total destruction of this chemical plant is going to have a spectacular and massive impact on the #RussianArmy. Possibly grinding entire systems to a stop in weeks, perhaps even days.
Like many industrial sectors in #Russia, they tend to be centralized, massive + singular. This is generally a result of historic centralization of production under the Soviet model, and a fear of building massive high-cost infrastructure by nonRU firms #BASF #DuPont etc.

More and more IIT alumni are donating money to their mother institutions (IITs) to build and run medical colleges.

This is excellent start of a revolution. Let's try to predict the direction.

IITs have been truly star institutes of India. Almost all produce occupies highest possible positions home and abroad. And in civil services as well.

Every Indian parent nurtures IIT dream for their children and IIT alumni run coaching institutes also to fulfil that dream.
Intelligent engineers quickly quit their base speciality and enter very lucrative management work in for-profit organisations. Our best brains are well known to make tons of money for investors and share holders. Enriching the whole world in this process.

Today's Topic: Build the right profile
Have you heard the words “first impression matters!”? This is true almost everywhere, especially when you are an aspiring graduate student. Therefore, building the right profile before presenting them is very important.
Below are critical profiles you might need

1. Test Scores’ profile.
Though I am an advocate of #GREwaivers, I cannot underemphasize the importance of test scores. For instance, as an aspiring #engineering or #mathematical sciences graduate student, getting a GRE score

While looking for a way to start her career as a developer, Tuğçenur realized that the solution was obvious - then she landed her first tech job. How? Let’s read 👇
💻 Tuğçenur’s most challenging courses were coding-related courses while studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering - so she thought coding wasn’t for her.
👀 But her perspective had utterly changed when she practiced with Android programming during her internship.

Harsh reality: It will take you 10 years to realize how great our college curriculum is and how critical the core Computer Science subjects are.

Do not get misguided by these "EdTech cum SalesTech" startups and influencers. Everything at scale just boils down to
- Operating system concepts: Mutex, Semaphores, Critical Sections, Thread, Sockets, etc

- Database Internals: Query optimization of Database

- Distributed Systems: Need I say anything here

- Computer Architecture: To understand why vertical scaling has a limit
- Networking: Securing infra, optimizing routing, BGP protocol, CDN, TCP, UDP, etc.

- Multimedia Processing: If you get to build a live streaming platform

to just name a few

How precise are noisy #morphogen gradients in #tissue #patterning?

It turns out that the positional information they convey to #cells in the #neuraltube is much more accurate than previously estimated!

Our new #devbio paper is out in @NatureComms: Image
A methodological subtlety has previously led to overestimated positional errors of the morphogen gradients in the mouse neural tube. We reanalysed the noisy gradients and found that the positional information they can convey to cells is actually orders of magnitude more precise. Image
Also, morphogen gradients in differently sized tissues must not be pooled and rescaled to their mean length, or else an artificial positional error is added. Image

#covidpositive reflections of omicron as physician, dad and human subject

First, an omicron treasure hunt (with RAT testing PSA)
Then, implication
Finally, reflections and thanks
The hunt.

Wife had sore throat (Day 0) then runny nose (day 2-3). Must be a "cold"... 2 negative rapids then day 3 = positive. Like bright red positive .

Next, I sense a throat tickle. Real? 2 negative PCRs (per hospital policy), but doesn't seem right. Pharynx looks inflamed..
Had seen some @CPita3 and @KashPrime others sharing early oral v nasal testing data...had a hunch...

Experiment time: 2 simultaneous rapid antigen tests
A) Nasal turbinates 👃
b) Oropharynx 😝

As an engineering manager, you should spend your time with four main areas: people, project, product, and technology. 🧵

#Engineering #Leadership
Most of your time will be used setting #people to success by training, listening, opening opportunities, recruiting, hiring, advocating, and delivering actionable, timely, and candid feedback.
The outcome your #team produces in #projects is the value they offer to your company, and your role letting engineers to make decisions with autonomy but in an informed fashion. You are the link between your team’s work and your org’s #strategy.

Door 1 - Hertha Ayrton. British engineer, mathematician, physicist, inventor. Known for her work with the electric arc + discovery with waves and ripple.

1899, she was the first woman ever to read her own paper before the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).

Door 2 - Katharine Burr Blodgett. Physicist and chemist. Invented the nonreflective glas. Which improved everything from eyeglasses to the camera on your phone. She was the first woman to receive a PhD in physics from the @Cambridge_Uni

Hey @TheIET, @EngineerDG & @iamwill we are totally with you on #EngineeringKidsFutures! We @Sheffielduni can see a very bright future for home-grown engineering talent. Let me explain in this thread 🧵where we are at. 1/
The UK currently has some of the world’s best, top level engineering. But there’s a massive shortfall of new talent and the picture is getting worse as country after country overtake us in skills and knowledge. What are we doing about it? 2/
#Engineering has an image problem, particularly among certain under-represented groups. Not everyone can identify as an engineer, but most people, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, dis/ability can identify as a #Maker. 3/
