It’s a sleepless night for Kashmiri Hindus staying in the valley. Bindroo family has been a prominent Kashmiri Pandit family who stayed on even during peak of terrorism. Killing of a 70 year old man who gave medicines all these decades to the ailing Kashmiris is just bizarre.
I’ve been on phone with Hindu families in Kashmir. Some in constant fear, others in tears. Helpless. They’ve to think twice before attending funeral of Makhan Lal Bindroo who was killed by terrorists. Why can’t Govt provide safety to Kashmiri Hindus even after 32 years of exodus?
A Kashmiri Hindu friend with her toddler daughter has to travel to Kashmir tomorrow morning. Her daughter’s first visit to homeland. She calls to ask if it is safe to travel. ‘I have been never so scared. This is my first travel with ***. Isliye Itna darr lag raha hai’, she says.
Another Kashmiri Hindu friend in Delhi is convincing his old-aged parents in Kashmir to temporarily move out. He calls to ask if their area in Kashmir can be given security cover. J&K Police obliged and gave security immediately. But will this end the killing of Kashmiri Pandits?
One couple friend including a prominent Kashmiri doctor have cut short their visit to Kashmir and will return to Delhi tomorrow. “Indeed a sleepless nightChildren are petrified. We are scared to hell”, they tell me from Srinagar. This is the fear psychosis that led to KP exodus.
And the phone calls haven’t ended even at midnight. Prominent Kashmiri Pandit activist from Kashmir tells me that he has been raising concerns on security of KPs in valley since June. He says, terrorists have identified names of 100 locals - many are Hindus - to target slowly.
A Kashmiri Hindu businessman friend texts at midnight. Asks how bad is the situation in Srinagar. Says, first time ever his Muslim friends are asking him to not venture out for few days and stay home. “For the first time in years since I have been here, I am worried”, he says.
I wake up only to find a text from a friend from Mumbai visiting Kashmir with her mother as tourists for a month. “I am scared and in two minds to continue my stay here. Don't know how to act now with just the two of us..”, she wrote. Asked her to continue the stay as normal.
Endless pain. Now a Kashmiri Pandit journalist from valley texts. “Very upset brother. I now feel unsafe here”, he writes. I don’t know what to tell these Kashmiri Hindus who have braved all odds and stayed in the valley. How can KPs be rehabilitated if you can’t ensure security?
Kashmiri Pandit activist who called me last night from Srinagar called again in horror after his son was told by someone on the street that his father would be next target. Alerted J&K Police and other security agencies. I have never seen such fear in valley KPs in last 15 years.

This is 70 year old Kashmiri Pandit Makhan Lal Bindroo who was shot dead by terrorists around 7pm today. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. My sources say J&K Police had Intel inputs indicating that minority community will be targeted in Srinagar.
As per Police the name of the person killed by terrorists near Madeen Sahab Lalbazar of Srinagar is Virender Paswan, resident of Bhagalpur in #Bihar. He was a Street Vendor of Golgappa. Killed while he was moving his cart in the area. He was residing at Alamgari Bazar Zadibal. L

I feel bad for the family of this collector. Imagine if this is the level of violence on the road, what kind of domestic violence will he be capable of? I hope CM Chattisgarh, DGP Chattisgarh take note and act. Need to set a precedent. Also DoPT GOI as well. @DrJitendraSingh
