1. At one point, he says just hosting:

“I think it should not be allowed for a sporting event to host in a country that criminalizes against basic human rights,” Daley said. “So, that is going to be my mission now to change that.”
2. But he also said this:

“I think it’s really important to try and create change, rather than just highlighting or shining a light on those things... make it so that the countries [where it's] punishable by death for LGBT people are not allowed to compete at the Olympic Games.”
There are 11 countries where queerness is punishable by death and another 60ish others where queerness is criminalized in some capacity.

Most of them have an underground queer culture... with a decent amount of athletes involved.
If there are queer and trans athletes in these countries - there are - you are going to punish them in an effort to try to get their legislators to stop committing hate crimes.

This could easily lead to them being found out if they create *any* push acknowledge.

AKA kill folks.
That's just one aspect.

It doesn't address how, in most of these spaces, queerness is only legislated against because of colonialism.

Before white folks fucked it up, the Middle East was FULL of queerness and transness.
Now that we've "grown" we think we can pass judgment on those who continue these practices and hold these ideals near?

After we beat it into them over hundreds of years? Really?

This is a great example of how white western activism or ideas don't fit everyone.
If you're surprised by this and want to dig in more?

Get this book.

I read it in grad school part one and it changed how I pick up on colonialism affects on other countries.

He needs to reread this.

'society historically has been “dictated from a straight White male perspective” but needed to embrace different perspectives, whether from the point of view of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation “or whatever it is.”'

All I can think about rereading his words is how it reeks of continued colonialism from this white UK kid.

It brings to mind images of white feminists deciding a topless protest was good for raising awareness of the plight of Middle Eastern women.

Queer and trans liberation, like feminism, will not be a one-size-fits-all situation.

Nor should white folks jump in to 'tell' others how to 'fix' the views they hold based on colonialism.

If @TomDaley1994 really wants to make things safer for other queer folks or trans folks in dangerous countries?

He needs to put his support behind grassroots efforts within those countries.

Not come in acting like a white savior refusing to see the UK's role here.
If y'all do not see the problem with a white British man whose well-off taking up a cause to ban BIPOC from many countries from participating in the Olympics after reading this thread or even digging into it yourselves, idk what to tell ya.
PS: I do not trust orgs like the IOC to even come close to pretending that they'd get ANY moves like this correct.

They're racist and corrupt as hell.

[ Little discussion ]

Hard agree.

I experience a lot of Little-ness when my POTS or other conditions are acting up. If I'm honest, a part of me is always Little - it just adjusts due to all the factors.

I shouldn't have to avoid certain spaces because of this.

I've learned more since writing this and should write an update tbh.

I decided to lean into what it would look like to embrace my Little side more instead of shame it.

It's made a huge difference in how often I enter Little mode in ways I described above.

For #WorldMentalHealthDay I want to see more discussions around how systems of oppression - like racism - continue to harm folks.

When I started @ChronicSexChat six years ago, I could have never imagined where my life would lead because of that decision.

I've been spending the little extra time I have lately making some much-needed updates to the site.
New content is coming, including info on bias, better organized info, and some fun new ideas.

I still need to make some tweaks, but here's one example.

Another example?

This new page on ableism.

This is part of it.

The other part is that folks think someone who did something evil must be inherently evil, that they are monsters.

In reality, the lack of nuanced discussion of how evil acts and operates in the world is tied to othering which is tied to white supremacy.
As @okkervilriver said,

Now, with all these cameras focused on my face
You'd think they could see it through my skin
They're looking for evil, thinking they can trace it, but
Evil don't look like anything
Evil don't look like anything

PS: this was the first song that I learned on my ukulele that wasn't in a random uke song book.

1) The song itself is *chef's kiss*
2) The lyrics? 🔥
3) Okkervil River songs like this are so perfect for harmonizing

Here's the only thing I don't get here...

Why are we separating HCPs and patients? Why aren't patients getting access to the Friday sessions with their registration?

What's up with that?

Why has @UofUNeurology assumed patients with #POTS may not also be providers or otherwise involved in healthcare?

Or seemingly taken into account that we often have to help others get diagnoses and, therefore, should be getting this same info?
Why don't I get access to sessions like "Headache, Chronic Pain, and Joint Hypermobility in Dysautonomia" but instead get "Non-Pharmacological and Lifestyle Treatment Approaches for Dysautonomia" when patients are already gaslit with that enough?
