“I think it should not be allowed for a sporting event to host in a country that criminalizes against basic human rights,” Daley said. “So, that is going to be my mission now to change that.”
2. But he also said this:
“I think it’s really important to try and create change, rather than just highlighting or shining a light on those things... make it so that the countries [where it's] punishable by death for LGBT people are not allowed to compete at the Olympic Games.”
There are 11 countries where queerness is punishable by death and another 60ish others where queerness is criminalized in some capacity.
Most of them have an underground queer culture... with a decent amount of athletes involved.
If there are queer and trans athletes in these countries - there are - you are going to punish them in an effort to try to get their legislators to stop committing hate crimes.
This could easily lead to them being found out if they create *any* push acknowledge.
AKA kill folks.
That's just one aspect.
It doesn't address how, in most of these spaces, queerness is only legislated against because of colonialism.
Before white folks fucked it up, the Middle East was FULL of queerness and transness.
Now that we've "grown" we think we can pass judgment on those who continue these practices and hold these ideals near?
After we beat it into them over hundreds of years? Really?
This is a great example of how white western activism or ideas don't fit everyone.
'society historically has been “dictated from a straight White male perspective” but needed to embrace different perspectives, whether from the point of view of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation “or whatever it is.”'
If @TomDaley1994 really wants to make things safer for other queer folks or trans folks in dangerous countries?
He needs to put his support behind grassroots efforts within those countries.
Not come in acting like a white savior refusing to see the UK's role here.
If y'all do not see the problem with a white British man whose well-off taking up a cause to ban BIPOC from many countries from participating in the Olympics after reading this thread or even digging into it yourselves, idk what to tell ya.
PS: I do not trust orgs like the IOC to even come close to pretending that they'd get ANY moves like this correct.
I experience a lot of Little-ness when my POTS or other conditions are acting up. If I'm honest, a part of me is always Little - it just adjusts due to all the factors.
I shouldn't have to avoid certain spaces because of this.
Now, with all these cameras focused on my face
You'd think they could see it through my skin
They're looking for evil, thinking they can trace it, but
Evil don't look like anything
Evil don't look like anything
PS: this was the first song that I learned on my ukulele that wasn't in a random uke song book.
1) The song itself is *chef's kiss* 2) The lyrics? 🔥 3) Okkervil River songs like this are so perfect for harmonizing
Why has @UofUNeurology assumed patients with #POTS may not also be providers or otherwise involved in healthcare?
Or seemingly taken into account that we often have to help others get diagnoses and, therefore, should be getting this same info?
Why don't I get access to sessions like "Headache, Chronic Pain, and Joint Hypermobility in Dysautonomia" but instead get "Non-Pharmacological and Lifestyle Treatment Approaches for Dysautonomia" when patients are already gaslit with that enough?
