Are you wondering why Dave Chappelle is being attacked by comedy critics and reviewers?
The "here's what you missed about Dave Chappelle's latest special" megathread:
If you read the reviews of the Closer, you will notice several common threads.
1) They are more concerned with the politics of the show than the jokes 2) They claim he is obsessed with other people's genitals and transphobic 3) They are completely at odds with the experience of most people who clearly loved it
If you're wondering how this happened and why critics are so at odds with what you saw with your own eyes, here is how:
The comedy industry is dominated by a particular worldview. Specifically it has imbibed several ideas which reframe what comedy means.
The first of these is the postmodernist idea that words are capable of great harm - they are *literally* violence.
Since the comedian has a microphone and is standing on stage with lights pointing at him while thousands of people observe him, unable to reply, the comedian's words are more powerful than a normal person's.
As such, the comedian's primary role is no longer to amuse and entertain but rather to be responsible with the great power he wields. Like a doctor, he must "first do no harm".
The other belief almost universally accepted by the comedy industry is the idea of "punching down".
Punching down means making jokes involving a "marginalised group".
Since a marginalised group is particularly vulnerable, it requires special protection. A joke made about a powerful group is funny, but the same joke about a marginalised group is not.
For example, in the Closer, Chappelle deliberately inaccurately conflates Jews with Israel several times. Because Jews are not "marginalised" according to this worldview, the reviews don't take issue with this.
However, exactly the same conflation of trans activists with trans people ("trans people make up words to win arguments") is "problematic" because trans people are oppressed.
Obviously, I don't know Chappelle's mind or intent but like any great artist he scatters clues throughout the show designed to help those with eyes to see.
The final section of the show is designed specifically to deconstruct the idea of punching down by revealing it for what it is: sleight of mouth designed to prevent you from seeing that in order to punch down you have to consider some people less capable than others.
When he talks about his trans friend demanding that people allow her to have a human experience, he reminds us of our shared humanity and of the fact that the only way you will ever be truly equal is when people treat you like an equal, not like a member of a marginalised group.
In summary, the reason comedy critics are so angry with Chappelle is that his show powerfully debunks the ideology they have imbibed. Like he said, they're all a bunch of "bitch ass niggas" and he pointed it out.

Many people want to grow and develop but ignore the things that you actually need to live life powerfully.
9 things I recommend learning to do:
1) Get motivation from being underestimated. Few people ever see your full potential. Enjoy making them see.
2) Actively seek out negative feedback. Learn to strip out the emotional content and only focus on the substance. What are they saying you can improve? Take that, discard everything else.
3) Plan to fail. Most people have dreams of perfection. They see their diet/business/relationship working perfectly and when it doesn't, they give up. Expect it and you'll be mentally prepared.
You’re struggling to understand why some people are vaccine hesitant. The “let me help you” megathread:
Imagine you’re a normal person. The year is 2016. Rightly or wrongly, you believe most of what you see in the media.
You believe polls are broadly reflective of public opinion. You believe doctors and scientists are trustworthy and independent. You’re a decent, reasonable person who follows the rules and trusts authority.
Imagine your shock then, when Brexit, which you were assured won’t happen because it’s a fringe movement led by racists for racists, happens. The polls, which widely predicted it wouldn’t happen were completely wrong.
I am sure thatTalkRadio will get their YouTube channel reinstated. They have the lawyers, the connections and the money. I will be delighted for them when it happens.
However, it doesn't matter. Today is the day we can all be 100% certain that free speech is over. Here's why:
When Big Tech censored @nypost's story about Hunter Biden during US election, I told you (as a non-partisan) it was the biggest story of 2020. Big tech decided what was true in an attempt to influence an election. From there it gets worse:
As covered by @ggreenwald, the Biden cabinet is packed with former big tech executives. His administration will do nothing to deal with big tech censorship. The only chance was Trump winning and being so pissed off that he took a sledgehammer to Section 230. Congress won't help..
News Update #7 from the People's Republic of Lockdown for 18 Nov, 2027
The Government has announced that the lockdown will be extended for a further month after police officers responded to reports of a serial sneezer loose in central London. This marks 75 months...
...of continuous lockdown but Prime Minister Dawn Butler has promised this extension will be the last one. Her statement was received with apathy as anyone who cared about living ended their life years ago.
Meanwhile the toll from the deadly coronavirus continues to rise...
...with the 14th wave said to be one of the most lethal events in living memory, causing nearly as many deaths as toe stubbings, bathtub drownings and ice cream van accidents combined.
An emergency meeting of THYME confirmed the need to crack down on misinformation about...
My aunt died of COVID. My FIL is fresh out of hospital with pneumonia after catching it.
Lockdown was brilliant for me in terms of spending more time with family, my health and focusing on work I love.
Why do I vehemently oppose Lockdown 2.0?
According to the Government's own figures, the *first* lockdown will cause the deaths of up to 200,000 people.
We already have 28,000 excess non-COVID deaths. Over the next few years all the missed cancer, heart disease, diabetes diagnoses and delayed treatments will lead to...
...x00,000s of deaths.
The second lockdown will not end on Dec 2. It will continue until March. That's more people dead. Homeless. Suicidal.
Up to half a million people dying BECAUSE of lockdowns.
