When people are desperate & suicidal most people wish they would just shut up & suffer quietly. Then, post mortem, they will wax poetic about how important you were to them, post on social media, maybe even share the suicide hotline to take the moral veneer of a caring person.
...when in reality the time for all of that was when the person desperately needed to talk or just get a hug. Depression and desperation tell them to hide away and die. Reactions reinforce that... then the shame... then the dying.
The disease of self reliance and capitalism (in the current form of neoliberalism) makes so many feel like irresponsible failures and the debt trap locks them down and in and there is absolutely no escape save for the grave.
When a family is hit with suicide, it leaves the living in a horrible place... So that should tell you how painful, miserable & hopeless they must have felt to end it.
It's preventable but not in this dog eat dog, boot strapping world. So many will eat a bullet, sling a blade, down pills or a hang from a noose since help is a beggers game. Life is meaningless. Just pain. Inescapable, cruel, overwhelming doom and pain.
Families split up over financea, job losses, repairs on a house, and other problems surrounding money. Kids lose their parents. Homes lost. Lives forever destroyed.
No amount of drugs, alcohol, retail or hiding can satisfy. When someone is suicidal, they need support. Lots of it. Lots of understanding and a helper to stay focused on solutions. Not a fucking beat down.
