🚨ALERT🚨 Medical professionals understand why it's misleading & unethical to say #psychedelics are a #cure for any health condition. In this @CNBC video, @C_Angermayer (@atai_life) says #ibogaine has the "potential to completely cure addiction" 🧵 1/8
Though it's true some patients in recent #psychedelic clinical trials did not meet diagnostic criteria for their treatment-resistant condition after therapy, many still felt lingering symptoms of their condition afterward. Unfortunately, #PsychedelicsArentSilverBullets. 2/8
Medical professionals understand the distinction between #cures and #treatments. The term cure "refers to a complete restoration of health". Treatments are reserved for medical interventions which aim to control symptoms (think "effective treatment”) 3/8
The #psychedelic renaissance needs ppl who are willing to stand against those who prioritize profit & shareholders over the healing of the masses. Anyone who doesn't "want to make them broadly available" through #decrim measures is no friend of ours. 4/8
In this tweet, @C_Angermayer shared his unrealistic objective for his for-profit #psychedelic organizations: "to ultimately cure all #mentalhealth issues!". While I wish this was actually attainable, he's misleading the public & inspiring false hope. 5/8
@C_Angermayer has also recently expanded on his ideas concerning death and aging. As he sees it, aging is a "disease" that can be "cured". In his words, "Death is a disease, and someday we will find a cure". 6/8
Anyone notice how Maria was getting disinterested near the end? What’s up with Maria just saying “Explain psychedelics”? Not really an informative interview, more of a puff piece about @atai_life, a for-profit #corporadelic organization. @psymposia, wanna chime in?
The whole bit about “your audience might know about the early field of psychedelic research” was laughable. Most Americans still view psychedelics as schedule one drugs. Did anyone notice how they kept saying “compounds” instead of drugs? That’s new for FOX 🤨
