X : When are you going to write some papers on strategy?
Me : No rush. People are still learning to map and most have never seen a map. More than enough value in communication, challenge, basic anticipation and applying doctrine (principles) for most for a decade or two.

X : But we need a strategy.
Me : Ok. The strategy is to stop punching yourself in the face as a company. For that most will need communication, challenge, situational awareness, applying doctrine etc ... for a decade or two.
X : I need more.
Me : I'm in no rush. Never have been.

X : I don't get you.
Me : Hmmm. Did you ever see my map of mapping?
X : Yes
Me : You understand where I am in conflict, where I am co-operating / collaborating with others and building an "army" of mappers?
X : Sort of, but ...

X : ... if mapping becomes popular won't the big consultancies just adopt it?
Me : That's the plan.

X: I don't get.
Me : Let us suppose (big if) that they start adopting mapping ... that gives me new mechanisms by which to achieve my imperative. Beware of Geeks bearing gifts. There's no rush, I'm biding my time, we shall see how this plays out ... that's the fun of the game.

X : I'm not sure I follow.
Me : Strategy is all about changing the landscape to create a more favourable outcome. It's not enough to have cards to play, you need to play them at the right time. Don't be too eager to rush. Move swiftly, with purpose and direction but don't rush.

X : You are serious about this aren't you?
Me : Well, I started of 15 years ago with the imperative of rebeling and tearing down those big consultancy firms with no capital of any kind to achieve this. I've already built a small army of mappers around the world ...

... so, 15 years ago you would have probably called me stark raving bonkers. Today, you'd probably call me a bit deluded but if I'm lucky you might be a little bit less sure of that. I'll take that as an improvement.

We shall see where the game is in 15 years.

X : You could be wrong. You could fail.
Me : Always. But I've been called wrong so many times before that I've become a bit immune to people just saying that. I like to be challenged on the map and shown where the map is wrong and not just told "I'm wrong" because of belief.

X : So, you believe you are right?
Me : No. Again, it's I like to be challenged on the map. I tend to ignore most stories as little more than unchallenged beliefs tied up with confirmation and authority bias smothered in the politics of the story teller.
