Over the last few days, we've welcomed about a thousand new Twitter followers—hello! Here's a little bit about what we do to promote and protect Palestinian children's rights. #StandWithThe6 (thread)
DCIP is the only local, independent human rights organization focused solely on the rights of Palestinian children. We were founded in 1991 and are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year.
We're a member of the global @DCIsecretariat movement, which has dozens of local chapters all over the world. All member organizations commit to promoting and protecting children's rights in accordance with international law.
We have two programs: child protection and accountability. Our CP program works with Palestinian children to help them understand and advocate for their rights. But don't take our word for it—here's what the children in the Children's Council have to say.
We know children understand each other best. Here's a video that members of our Child-Led Protection team designed, wrote, and acted in to educate their peers about sexual harassment.
Our accountability program focuses on defending Palestinian children ensnared in the Israeli military detention system, documenting rights violations against Palestinian children, and advocating for Palestinian children's rights on the local and international levels.
Israel is the only country in the world that systematically and automatically detains children in military courts that lack fundamental fair trial rights and protections. Israel prosecutes between 500 and 700 Palestinian children in military courts each year.
More than half of these children are arrested at night, 95% have their hands and feet bound, 84% are blindfolded, 75% are strip-searched, & 18% are subjected to solitary confinement for interrogation purposes. DCIP provides free legal representation to these Palestinian children.
We document cases where Palestinian children are killed, injured, attacked, or detained. For example, 15-year-old Amir was shot in the head with live ammunition by Israeli forces and is still recovering. His story:
When a Palestinian child is killed, our field researchers are first on the scene, carefully collecting accurate information about the child and what happened. dci-palestine.org/israeli_forces…
On local and international levels, we use this documentation to advocate for protections for Palestinian children. In the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland, we work with partners on the #NoWaytoTreataChild campaign, which seeks to end the military detention of Palestinian children.
We are committed to defending Palestinian children and exposing grave human rights violations inherent in Israel's military occupation of Palestinians living in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. We're not going anywhere. #StandWithThe6

Thread: Israeli forces killed 16-year-old Palestinian teenager Said Yousef Mohammad Odeh on May 5, 2021. Now, his family, friends, and community are reflecting on Said's life.

His mother asks, "What did he do to justify his killing? He was just 16 years old."
Said's cousin, Munther, was shot in the back by Israeli soldiers while trying to carry Said to safety.

"We were standing here, and suddenly, the army came out from under the olive trees."
Israeli forces blocked paramedics from accessing Said after he was shot. The paramedic who finally reached him, Faiz, was surprised to see the person lying on the ground was his nephew, Said.

BREAKING: Israeli forces raided our main office in Al-Bireh today around 5 a.m., confiscating computers, laptops, and files concerning our Palestinian child detainee clients in the Israeli military courts. We were not informed of the reason for the raid.
This is the latest act by Israeli authorities to increasingly push forward a campaign to delegitimize and criminalize Palestinian civil society and human rights organizations like @DCIPalestine.
We carry out our work in a situation of armed conflict where perpetrators of war crimes and crimes
against humanity enjoy systemic impunity and Israeli forces refuse to end serious breaches
of international law or hold perpetrators accountable.

An Israeli drone-fired missile killed 15-year-old Mohammad Saber Ibrahim Suleiman shortly after 6 p.m. while he and his father Saber Ibrahim Mahmoud Suleiman were on their agricultural land outside the city of Jabalia.
In a second incident around 6:05 p.m., a homemade rocket fired by a Palestinian armed group fell short and killed eight Palestinians, including two children. The rocket landed in Saleh Dardouna Street near Al-Omari Mosque in Jabalia, according to evidence collected by DCIP.
