NSJ dialed in to today's COVID briefing and was just shut out of questions like we were in the past.
FTR, I logged into the call at the earliest time and was the first one logged in.

This was the first briefing in a month and Cooper only took a handful of questions inside of a 35-minute timeframe.

One Q I had for Sec. Cohen is the concern parents have that mask removal guidance seems to hinge forcing them to get their kids vaccinated.
Another would have been why are we focusing on possible vax req's for K12 kids when there are no such mandates for adults or Education staff.
/more
Noting 40% (30M kids) have some kind of natural immunity already, multiple FDA committee members balked at pushing kids to get the EUA shot they approved yesterday.
/more
Dr. James Hildreth said, “It just seemed to me that in some ways we’re vaccinating children to protect the adults when it should be the other way around."
/more
Dr. Cody Meissner: “I’m just worried that if we say yes, that the states are going to mandate administration of this vaccine to children in order to go to school, and I do not agree with that." She said that would be an error" until they get more information about the safety.
Kim Witczak (consumer rep. on the FDA Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Cmte):
“Is there really an emergency with this age group? Or is it being driven by a larger political agenda?”
Given that hundreds of healthy kids are being quarantined despite masks, I wanted to ask Cohen about the strain this is placing on districts. They are not equipped to perform tasks that the public health dept. should be doing.

Wake County's Office of Equity Affairs has drafted a new "Equity" policy for the district. It will be on the Policy Cmte agenda this Wednesday.
Yes, there are #CriticalRaceTheory elements in it.

Looks like they are drawing from districts that already have embedded CRT into their "Equity" policies.

#WCPSS
Wake's OEA is going out of state with one example - Arlington, VA. This one repeats the idea of "inclusion" yet follows the fluid nature of CRT:
"The work of equity is a principle that is constantly evolving, therefore, it is only prudent that the
definition will also evolve."

Last night at the Iredell-Statesville Schools (ISS) Board meeting, parents signed up to speak about ending masks in schools.
Speakers included former Miss USA 2009 Carrie Prejean Boller, who used her Instagram account to rally parents to the meeting.

Parents also spoke against the possibility of forcing children to be COVID-19 vaccinated in order to attend school. The ISS district is not letting parents proctor tests unless they are vaccinated.

There's a bill (HB572) in the #ncga right now barring vaccine mandates. It passed the House with 10 Democrats voting Yes. It's now up to the Senate to move in it.

INBOX: The NCAE doesn't like the idea of posting class materials, videos, links, etc on their school's website for parents to see per requirements in SB 755.

Here's their statement, stick around for the thread.

#ncpol #nced #ncga
NCAE Pres. says that "The idea of academic transparency is a solution in search of a problem"
Her reason is all materials & texts are vetted, so there is no need to see them.
She leaves out a lot of materials are district sourced or teacher-created. These are not vetted...
Ms. Kelly knows through personal experience that many materials ending up in classrooms are not vetted by the state.

INBOX: Senate passes bill expanding Opportunity Scholarships.
Release here: bergerpress.medium.com/senate-passes-…
(1/4)

Dem. Sen. Natasha Marcus spoke against the scholarships during floor debate. She said that "public funds should be used for public schools and not for private schools that are completely unaccountable."
She questioned private school teacher qualifications.
#ncga
Sen. Marcus then said private schools "don't have to demonstrate what their students are learning."

Sen. Lee countered, "Whenever someone says you should give money to the schools, I think the money should follow the child."

Hearing featuring NCSBE Exec. Dir. about to start

Here's the NC Dem Party press release, which bizarrely switches to focusing on @CawthornforNC, who was not in office when the consent agreement occurred.

The last part of the NCDP statement, still trying to tie Cawthorn to the agreement Brinson Bell entered into.
SB 326 doesn't prevent collection after election day, but does trim the 3 day acceptance period after election day.
