On social media, there is no filter. Things people say on Twitter would never be said if the person was sitting across you, if you had a personal relationship with the person. I see a lot of friends speak very vehemently on topics I would never agree on. I see to it that I never
argue with them on Twitter. Twitter conversations have a tendency to degenerate faster than food kept outside in summers and escalate faster than a fire in a dried forest. I also notice with great gratitude that these same friends who may not subscribe to my views also
reciprocate by maintaining silence on Twitter if they don’t agree with my views. People are not villains if they have views different from your own. Ideology is not the person. People grow, change, adapt. If we maintain civility, use words with care we do a favour to ourselves
more than we do to the other person.

I was in my college on the 12th of March. It was 2:10 and my lectures were over. I used to walk home from Ru via Gadkari Chowk and then to my house in Prabhadevi. A friend persuaded me to drink a cup of tea in the canteen before proceeding home. I said no, and he insisted -
so I stayed back. The moment I drank the last drop of tea in my glass there was a loud blast and the glass pane of the canteen window cracked because of it. We thought there was a cylinder blast. When I walked out of my college campus, and came to the main road, I saw a man -
carrying one of his bloody severed limbs in his surviving hand. He was so terrified that he wasn’t even crying. He was just running away from the site. On my way, I saw that the lucky petrol pump which I crossed every day, was blown to smithereens. If I hadn’t stopped for that

Bhakts are going after this with hammer and tongs. But look at how this little incident brings about the best in Nehru’s leadership.
1. He had excellent taste in smoking and also was careful about not overdoing the vice. Just one cigarette. Not more than that. No overdoing stuff
2. He needed just one cigarette after lunch but the loyalty he inspired from his employees, I mean, his followers was akin to Hanuman’s loyalty of Shri Ram! Look at how they acquired the entire carton instead of just that one cigarette.
3. To add to how he inspired loyalty, his most humble servants didn’t think twice before using taxpayer resources to get his wish fulfilled. This not only shows bravery of not fearing legal consequences but also great prudence for they didn’t spend that money from their own

I was educated in English. Marathi was spoken primarily at home. It was in the last year of my college that I picked up a novel by the great Marathi litterateur, GoNi Dandekar - Kuna Ekachi Bhramangatha. By the time I reached the last page of the novel, I had an epiphany. 1/n
English (and other European languages) may have the world’s best literature, but literature that talked about me and my environment could be found in Marathi and in Marathi only. It propelled me to learn my mother tongue seriously. I must thank my parents who were avid 2/n
readers and also enthusiastic book collectors. When I came into contact with the Marathi playwright, Chetan Datar, this urge to know the subtleties of the language grew manifold. I started exploring #Marathi through poetry and music. I think it was exactly this that led me to 3/n
