Hello everyone! I want to talk about inconsistencies i’ve experienced in App Store Review process. This is my personal experience, I’m an Spanish dev that have uploaded 15 apps in the last 2.5 years with 40+ updates. Here are my thoughts about the whole process.
1. Whole review related time is a mystery. I don’t know why my app could be more than 24h In Review and other less than 45 minutes. This happens every time, doesn’t matter if i made really little changes or even is the same compilation.
2. Inorganic feedback. When i’ve had a message from Review team, is so long and could be hard to understand whats exactly the problem. This improved in the last years but is far to be great. More concise and user friendly message will improve the whole experience.
3. Why this now is a problem? In the first release of this app, I’ve uploaded an screenshot with test ads, it’s ok if this is a problem. But why i’ve passed the filter the first time? And now i’ve to change it in my second update? Why this inconsistence?
4. Sometimes some weird bugs happen on their devices. I’ve experienced some problems trying to upload an update to one of my apps that only happens in the review process. I’ve checked all scenarios and found nothing related with the error that they are reporting.
5. Looonger times when they require metadata info. If they ask you to explain something i’ve found that 90% of the times the will probably reject the update & make you loose a couple days in the process.
6. If you have the type of problem explained in points 4 & 5. You can submit an screenshot or video to the app store review time with the compilation. This sometimes will work, but why they admit an update that they’ve rejected before with a video/image that could be fake?
7. Talking with review team is difficult and really slow. This is very related with 5. Will be more effective uploading a new compilation than trying to explain yourself.
8.1. No standard for errors. In this app I’ve some ads before and after each game. To show this ads i need to ask for App Tracking Permission (ok), but one time i’ve passed the filter with a typo in the request. And the other time my app was rejected because that typo.
8.2. I think this is too radical, why not accept my submit and send me a message with the info related to the typo. This doesn’t affect the user experience, and is a true example of the differences you can experiment in the review process. (The typo was abs instead of ads)
9. You can only communicate with them in English. I’m a naive Spanish speaker and i don’t understand why they can’t communicate with you in your preferred language. Resolution Center 50% English 50% Spanish is weird.
