The problems you think you have, some people are praying for.
// a thread 🧵
I pray every day that God would send someone to our gate who we can help.
Last week, God sent Carlos.
Carlos is 23 and has had epileptic seizures most of his life.
He explained that they started to get worse six months ago. He now has 20 seizures a month.
As we sat on a bench, Carlos told me his dad was murdered in Guatemala City when he was 6 months old.
"He was a pastor, street preaching in a neighborhood of gangs."
His mom died of cancer when he was 13, leaving Carlos, and his two brothers orphaned.
Carlos needed Q500 for an MRI. That's the equivalent of 10 days working in the fields...or...$65.
"I've try to save, but I only earn enough to eat."
And that's Guatemala's story in a sentence.
I gave him the money and told him to come back with the results.
(I knew he'd need to buy medication, probably for life.)
Today I walked down an alley and saw what I thought might be his "house". It was a tin shed built on the side of a church.
"God, tell me that's not it.
Tell me that's not it.
Tell me that's not it."
Carlos heard the dogs barking and opened the door.
"Bienvenido!" "Welcome!" He wore the biggest smile.
There was an old mattress laying on the dirt floor and an old desk where they ate their meals. Other than a few cardboard boxes of full of clothes...that was it.
When I got back home I made a single phone call to friends in the States.
I explained the situation and asked if they could help build Carlos a home.
Without hesitation they simply said, "Yes! Thank you."
They wired $5,000 that night.
Carlos has NO IDEA what's coming.
$5,000 will build:
• 2 bedrooms
• a living room / kitchen
• a bathroom
• water to their property
• a water filter
• new beds

Life lessons
• Your life is more blessed than you think.
• Regardless of what the world tells you, there are very good people in the world.
• We can all do SOMETHING. We can all pray.
• God answers prayers. He answered mine and he answered Carlos'.
I can't believe you made it this far! Thank you. This isn't a typical Twitter thread.
