I’ve been seeing a lot of “The Pandemic is ending” pieces of late. They all have 1 thing in common, they are opinion pieces. As such, I thought I would put my 2 cents in there as well, I’m not a reporter compiling sources and parroting what they say into “news”. 🧵#Thread
The pandemic is no where near being over. It’s merely evolved into 3 distinct groups (experiences). Group 1- The vaccinated. Group 2- The partially/ under vaxxed but no longer give a fuck and Group 3- The Un-vaccinated.

Group- 1: The fully Vaxxed. This is ppl like me. I am restarting my life and I am very comfortable with where we are in this.

The Virus has traveled the world and taken hold in every location. Since Detla, no new variant has become dominate or produced more then localized peaks in infections. (Note: This could change but odds are growing it won’t)
Now that children are authorized for the vaccine, another ~10% of our population will effectively be removed from the transmission pool for the virus.
A booster gets us through winter, with mask and general basic hygiene to protect us, our risk is low and manageable.

Next summer and going forward will completely depend on the actions of group 3 for group 1. Am I that worried about it? Not really, for Group 1, the Pandemic has become more or less, a year long flu season.
Group- 2: The partially/ under vaccinated. This includes those who have had only 1 dose of a mRNA vaccine, those who got J&J, everyone who’s had Covid but no vaccine (natural immunity), the immunocompromised, the low wage earners, those locked out of work, the over exposed…
I feel for this group, they are stuck in a ground hog day nightmare being generated by Group- 3 (The unvaxxed).
Group- 2 will be the most harmed by the pandemic mentally and physically. For them, breakthrough infections and long Covid will always be a present concern. For them, there has been no “winding down” of the pandemic and how they interact with it.
What they see is Group- 1 moving on, Group- 3 doing whatever the fuck they want and them being left to struggle while being pushed aside. The Media is not helping in this as they say feel good things about the pandemic falsely winding down.
This is why many in Group-2 have given up & are just trying to live normally, they will be the true lasting legacy of this pandemic. I’ve said from the start that we will witness the greatest shift in wealth any generation has ever seen & it’s moving from Groups-2 & 3 to Group-1
Group- 3: These motherfuckers have a world of hurt hitting them every day and I’m hear for it. Survival is a team effort and they are only playing for themselves.
The burn rate of the virus in this population is still accelerating. This is because the decisions to reclaim a normalcy allows them to become more exposed to infection.

What is different this time is the amount of them that we are dealing with. Decades of decreasing education, decades of only improving health outcomes, decades of vaccine use by boomers to protect us, all have hidden what a virus can do to them & has grown their ranks.
I want to be very clear here. When I talk about Group- 3, I am not talking about ppl that do not have access to the vaccine.
We cannot declare the pandemic over till all countries have equal access to vaccines. We cannot even say the pandemic has become endemic until everyone that wants a vaccine has it.
What is going to happen is, the media will focus on us & where we are as a nation.

Sadly America is starting to act like Groups- 1 & 3, moving on and doing whatever the fuck we want.

What I’m saying is, these articles and what the new norm will look like, are not nuanced, they are geographically centric & fluff shit.
From where I sit, this is the new norm for at least another 3-5yrs. Until the world is vaccinated & we can declare Covid-19 globally endemic
