Remember, when MWAA says SV II has hit Substantial Completion, that doesn't mean the track and signals is automatically now owned by #wmata - the agency will need to verify it meets what they expect and then decide whether or not to accept it and/or with what conditions.
"Metro will not take ownership before the rail yard is complete" #wmata
For funsies, here's a slide from the #wmata 7000-series award from 11 years ago. 64 railcars the agency needed for fleet expansion were included as an option (later funded) but weren't in the base contract.
The operator of RD/Glenmont train 104 approaching White Flint reports they're being delayed due to a deer on the tracks. #wmata
White Flint switcheroo:
The train @ White Flint on the Glenmont-bound track will be heading back to Twinbrook; the train @ White Flint on the Twinbrook track will be heading to Glenmont via downtown.
The #wmata FY2023 proposed budget relies on one-time federal pandemic funds to close a projected $715 million gap. The agency says it would only have $151 million to fill any operating budget gap the year after; that ~$564 million would have to come from somewhere else.
Jayme Johnson is now #wmata Assistant Chief Safety Officer. He previously was tasked with reorganizing the Rail Operations Control Center.
Today's safety message: deer strikes, common this time of year. There apparently have been 23 deer train strikes since July; 11min avg delay
Where we stand: the 7000-series railcars remain out of service due to a potential defect apparently known since at least 2017. #wmata needs to submit a plan of action to the WMSC for approval before they can come back in service. ggwash.org/view/82822/whe…
Point of clarification: wheel assembly inspection failures - 31 incidents between 2017 and 2021, and 21 found since Friday - are counted by axle, not by railcar. Each railcar has 4 axles split between two truck assemblies (748 railcars, 2992 axles)
RD/Twinbrook delays due to train 106 offloading @ Forest Glen. The train is being used for a track inspection due to a earlier report of a possible fire on the inbound track. #wmata
It looks like #wmata may be single-tracking between Forest Glen and Silver Spring due to an earlier report of a possible fire on the inbound track. Delays, both directions.
Red Line trains are running again in both directions between Forest Glen and Silver Spring. No single-tracking, but delays up to 15 minutes (there was a track crew in the area with access to the tracks, causing some trains to hold). #wmata
7pm:
OR/SV/BL still running about every 20-25 minutes.
Caps fans at Capital One should probably not expect service to improve by the time the game is over; this is what we have until system closing tonight.
