...Hm. I am once again thinking about an AU where LWJ is forced to marry Wen Xu, and he copes by immediately starting a smoking hot affair with WWX.
I don't know if this should be a canon AU or modern AU. I don't know if this is a situation where LWJ and WWX already know each other, or if they meet after the wedding.
I really have no idea what the particulars should be. I just like the Vibes involved with this concept.
I think it's particularly fun if WX really believes that he's got this chaste-to-the-point-of-frigidity omega husband. But LWJ is getting absolutely RAILED by WWX whenever his husband's back is turned.
I'm imagining something canon-adjacent...maybe the Sunshot Campaign drags on longer than it does in canon. Maybe it fails altogether. Either way, WWX is in hiding with the other members of La Resistance.
But he's able to smuggle himself into and out of Nightless City using demonic cultivation.
LWJ is forced to marry WX, but he flatly refuses to consummate the marriage. He's not due for a heat cycle for a few months, so conception is impossible until then.
And he was brought up to believe that it's Shameful Debauchery for omegas to have sex for any other purpose but conception!
He drones on about the Lan sect rules for a while, until WX sneers and rolls his eyes and walks away.
Fine, WX says. It's good that his husband knows his place! He's absolutely correct: his only purpose now is to produce children for WX. And until he's able to do that, there's really no need for them to spend even a moment in each other's company.
WX assumes his husband is far too prim and priggish to be ANY fun in the bedroom. So he leaves to go enjoy his concubines. He tells his husband that his concubines actually know how to SATISFY an alpha.
And then LWJ smuggles WWX into Nightless City and they get BUCK WILD.
He rides WWX until he's breathless and begging for mercy and chanting LWJ's name. Just as revenge for that 'don't know how to satisfy an alpha' remark!
I also like to think that when LWJ's heat DOES come, they're ready. WQ has what she needs to drug WX.
WWX has perfected a technique that can induce whatever hallucinations he wants.
They can make WX THINK he bedded his husband, when he was ready stuffed into a broom closet somewhere, drooling on the floor while WWX takes care of his beloved.
They dump him in the bed once they've finished (and changed the sheets and gotten rid of WWX's scent). WWX vanishes, with the promise to return soon.
And LWJ lowers his eyes demurely when WX brags about breaking in his omega.
When WQ announces that LWJ is pregnant, WX brags about that too.
LWJ actually SMILES over his pregnancy, and WX is insufferably smug.
Omegas, he says. They're all the same! They just need to be put in their place.
They're HAPPY like this, you see? They WANT to be mastered by an alpha and stuffed full of babies.
LWJ does not argue, and WX is very doting during his pregnancy.
And then there comes an evening when WX wakes up from a deep sleep.
A suspiciously deep sleep. Why is his head aching so badly? He didn't drink any wine that night.
The walls are shaking. There are screams in the corridor.
His father and brother are being ripped apart by the Yiling Patriarch in the great hall, though he doesn't know that now.
He staggers out into the antechamber, clutching the wall to hold himself steady.
And his husband - his husband, who is mere weeks away from giving birth - is standing there, the tip of his sword pressed into the hollow of WX's throat.
WX reaches for his own sword. He reaches for his golden core, for something, for anything.
He comes up empty-handed. His core has been sealed. His sword is gone. The knives he keeps inside his sleeve have vanished.
His husband tells him, with the same damnable calm WX could never seem to splinter, that WRH and WC will be dead by now.
The Core-Melting Hand is already dead. The Wen elders have been poisoned. The Nie and Lan forces have crossed the border. The Yiling Patriarch is inside the citadel. Nightless City has fallen, and WX will be sent to join his ancestors in a matter of moments.
Contrary to popular belief, WX does know when he's beaten.
The citadel itself is crumbling. A window behind him blows open. He can see troops moving, and they are not his troops. They wear the white robes of the Lan clan.
WX knows that his husband is telling the truth.
He can do nothing but laugh.
He wastes one moment wondering if he can shove his husband down, wrestle the sword away from him. But he knows he can't.
His husband is pregnant, yes. But he is a trained combatant with a powerful golden core.
Once, WX thought these were desirable qualifies. He thought they guaranteed that his children would be equally powerful cultivators.
So he tells his husband that he can kill WX.
But the Wen clan will continue, will it not? Even if LWJ and his accomplices kill every cultivator with so much as a drop of Wen blood in their veins, the Wen clan will continue.
Because there is one surviving heir that LWJ will surely never kill.
He won't be able to bear the idea of killing his own child, will he? So he will have the memory of WX with him always. Who knows? Perhaps their child will avenge his father someday!
He expects to see at least a trace of anger or humiliation on his husband's face.
But LWJ's lips curve in a slow smile.
LWJ tells him that he is quite right: the Wen clan WILL survive.
LWJ will be named regent and acting sect leader before dawn.
The child he bears will be the future Sect Leader Wen, and LWJ will govern in their stead until they come of age.
The Wen sect will rebuild, with the Dafan Wens taking a position of prominence.
Elders and advisors and council members will be selected from among their branch. Wen Qing, in particular, will be his most valued advisor, and his child's most valued advisor.
(Not being an entirely stupid man, WX realizes why he woke with a mysterious hangover.)
He realizes who poisoned the elders. But before he can curse her with his final breath, LWJ steps closer.
And he tells his husband exactly who fathered this child, the child that will someday take command of the Wen sect.
He tell WX that the child will know, from the moment they draw their first breath, that they shares no blood with WX. The first thing the child sees, when they open their eyes after the birth, will be their true father's face. LWJ promises this.
Then he cuts WX's throat.
And by morning, Nightless City has been conquered and LWJ has been installed as regent.
By the end of the month, he has a son and heir. And if his son looks a great deal like the Yiling Patriarch, who is never far from LWJ's side, certainly nobody has the nerve to mention it.
And they enjoy peace, prosperity, and political power for the rest of their extremely long lives. THE END.
...OK, that brainworm just HAD to squirm free. But I am booting myself off twitter for the rest of the evening to work on my WIPs, goodbye!!

I'm always very partial to single-dad!WWX and teacher!LWJ. I am also partial to matchmaker!A-Yuan.
So I think it's fun to plop these concepts into an a/b/o setting.
A-Yuan wants siblings, y'all!
Oh, you think JYL and JC are hassling WWX about adopting another baby? You think random Jiang relatives are busy trying to matchmake WWX?
Well, they've got NOTHING on our boy A-Yuan. Every day, he looks at his baba like
WHERE are his younger brothers and sisters?! He's WAITING, Baba!
WWX manages to string him along for a bit, by claiming that he's been checking the cabbage patches every day, but he hasn't found any babies! No deliveries from the stork, either! Sorry, Yuanyuan!
LRT - ...Well, now I kinda want a time-travel fic where WWX goes back to the very early days of the Sunshot Campaign.
He promptly FLATTENS the Wens, casually disposes of WRH and his sons, arranges for JGS to 'accidentally fall off a cliff', and claims the Dafan Wens as his own.
...And he accidentally winds up as the new Sect Leader for the rebuilt/restructured Wen clan, which is not what he was going for AT ALL, and now he's like
Now, I don't know what period WWX is coming FROM.
Post-resurrection means he's a lot more psychologically stable, but it also means he probably wants to get back to his own timeline.
Pre-death means he's pretty damn unstable, but he also might not want to go back.
I really do think that WWX will joke freely about eating the rabbits, but he'll also gasp in outrage and indignation if anyone else does it.
WWX sends LWJ lots of jokey pictures of WWX putting the bunnies in the crock-pot while LWJ is at work.
But if JC makes one (1) comment about WWX or anyone else eating the bunnies, WWX lunges across the room to cover both LWJ's ears AND the bunnies' ears.
"Jiang Cheng!" he wails. "How could you make jokes about something like that! Look, you're upsetting Petunia! Stop saying that people might eat her, or she'll be traumatized!"
Then, as soon as JC is gone, he goes back to taking funny pictures of the buns in a roasting pan.
After wangxian get married, LWJ goes off his suppressants. He wants to have a heat cycle and get pregnant, so he stops taking his medicinal teas or whatever.
Slowly, his scent changes.
And the HGJ Respecting Quotient (HGJ-RQ) goes up DRAMATICALLY.
Before, the general mood in CR was, 'Yes, of course we respect our HGJ.'
Afterward, the mood is, 'I BELIEVE IN HGJ SUPREMACY 🥵😵💫🛐 '
LWJ can't go anywhere without a trail of Lan disciples (young and old) following after him.
You need anything, king? Anything we can do for you? Just say the word! 🥺😳🥰
I absolutely cannot evaluate my own writing competency! I've been doing it all my life, I studied it at the undergrad and graduate level, I've done it professionally. It's my primary hobby, and has been ever since I could hold a pencil.
And that means I'm way too close to it. I can't assess it AT ALL. It's a can't-see-the-forest-for-the-trees situation.
I'm shit at parking, though. I knocked a couple points off my cooking score because I don't really know how to cook meat/seafood.
