"It was made about race when colonizers came here, it was made about race when Black people were forcefully disconnected from our homeland, so don't say we are making this about race, it was about race before I was born!" -- Speaker at rally
"You know that the system is rigged, and you're gonna tell me it's not!" -- Speaker at rally
The speaker that just spoke talked about all the Black and Brown people in jail right now for small/non-violent charges, meanwhile Rittenhouse walked free after killing two people. He also touched upon how the U.S. has always preyed on poor people and Black and Brown people.
Another speaker spoke about how immigrants are treated like criminals just by seeking asylum and a better life.
"Black Lives Matter isn't political, it's not controversial, we matter!" -- Speaker reading a poem they wrote
"How many times when our children get into trouble for minor things are the parents demonized?" -- Speaker when talking about how Rittenhouse's mother drove him across state lines with his gun. Says how if the family wasn't white, child protective services would have stepped in.
"There's no way if Kyle Rittenhouse was Black, or another young person of color, that he would have been allowed to walk in Kenosha with a gun and be alive... Enough is enough!"
Calls for the federal government to step in and charge Rittenhouse and for Wisconsin to re-charge are made.
"We ask the federal government to intervene and Kyle Rittenhouse be charged." -- Jonathan McClellan, MN Justice Coalition
The march makes its way back to the government center.
There are cars at the back and front of the march to protect the marchers because vehicle attacks can happen. We just covered the lawsuit against 'Unite the Right' organizers in Charlottesville, where in 2017, #HeatherHeyer was ran over and killed. unicornriot.ninja/2017/violent-w…
We just spoke to one of the march attendees carrying a banner with the pictures of the three Rittenhouse victims. Rittenhouse murdered Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and injured Gaige Grosskreutz.
