4/Many in crypto-land don’t understand this is the network and tradition they’re joining into. But it’s indisputable. This is the crack Steve Bannon is trying to widen to split the planet along this axis; he is amplifying old historical divides and suspicions.
5/Here is a video from 10 years ago by Porter Stansberry, part of this libertarian goldbug network, warning about all the same things the crypto bros are warning about now.
The inflation, collapse, chaos, and judgment day he warns of never came.
6/The crypto-bros have copy-pasted this narrative, which would not have been out of place in 1934 or 1980, and updated it with new loaded language, symbols and mysticism to bring about a new cult that seems fresh. But at its core it is a retelling of these prior myths.
7/It’s also a rehash of the infamous “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion” which cast Jewish bankers and mercantilists as the out-group. That, of course, led to 6 million dead.
8/There are of course many people drawn into the crypto milieu who would reject these groups, but it’s very difficult to untangle these projects from this history, because it emerged from this JBS/libertarian milieu.
9/Steve Bannon et al, in positioning the crypto space, knew it would attract the fascist right that was aware of this history.
He also knew he would attract young people and the middling bourgeoisie frustrated by the establishment and its (apparent) rigged apparatus.
10/Crypto, for many, offers a kind of “shortcut” to wealth, prosperity, status, and meaning that bypasses old establishment gatekeepers.
It also would seem to accelerate the confrontation between the pure (GMI) and impure (NGMI). In this way, it is a doomsday or UFO cult.
11/Let me assure you that were it not for people trying to weaponize the rank and file (Bannon, Putin, Thiel, Kochs, carbon interests) the crypto space would be but a sideline tech curiosity. Its potency and utility comes in its capacity to challenge US hegemony in a broad way.
12/People embedded in the cult will reject this characterization. That’s expected. But this analysis is correct.
People attracted to the space but not to Steve Bannon, Putin, or Thiel need to distance themselves, figure out what they believe in, and start working on that.
13/Only by vocally separating from this historic tradition can you avoid being used by these odious characters for their illiberal, eugenicist aims.
Richard Hofstadter called this the “Paranoid Style” in American politics.
14/If, on reflection, you think you do agree with Bannon, Brock Pierce, Peter Thiel, Putin, Robert Welch, Ron Paul, Guy Ballard, Ayn Rand, Robert Lefevre, and the long tradition of American fascist libertarianism… well, that’s at least honest.
Own it. Defend it.
15/Otherwise, it’s time to #walkaway and declare that you reject this project and what it stands for. That you refuse to be a stooge of Bannon, Thiel and Putin, and you want to build something apart from them.
It’s time to decide.
16/This long tradition, of a persecuted in-group that knows better than the out-group, is revived whenever there has been social upheaval and change, when governance becomes strained.
It is to be expected. But it’s time to put this devil back into the hole again. Join in.
Worth noting that Occupy had similar characteristics and they tested this, too. A broad 99% is easy to weaponize against a villainous 1%, and that 99% will contain people with both left and right orientations, who can be allied and weaponized.
Please refer to these points when evaluating rhetoric coming from cryptocurrency and NFT cults. Once you see them as markers of cult behavior, they're easy to call out.
#1 "Crypto spaces" create safe spaces where participants can "help" each other and build social bonds. These spaces are imbued with "love" and "constructive energy" that enable people to "build" and "learn together about what works."
#2 Certain actors in the space are imbued with mystical energy or properties, say a Saylor, Dorsey, Musk, Thiel, or Novogratz. Their prognostications are watched closely, and when they are right, they are assigned prescience and respect. They signify a top of a hierarchy.
1/Thiel, HRF, Musk, Putin, Flynn are synchronized not necessarily because of explicit coordination but because of interest alignment and network influence, according to two sources close to these networks I spoke with yesterday.
2/The idea of crashing the dollar, defaulting on US debt, shifting oil transactions away from the dollar as the world reserve currency, is something of a libertarian fantasy trope, an archetypal myth that would validate Austrian School theory, and thus becomes a myth, a legend.
3/This trope thus becomes the morality play at the heart of every doomsday tale: the moment when the truth is revealed, society collapses and must atone for its profligate spending and moral sins, and the weak (“fiat”) heretics are separated from the pure (“gold”) believers.
The Human Rights Foundation @HRF is being used to advance a plan to crash the global economy and drive assets into cryptocurrencies.
This is a pump and dump on a global scale, hiding behind “human rights” with positions functionally indistinguishable from the John Birch Society.
Alex Gladstein, the @HRF’s Chief Strategy Officer, has become increasingly visible in recent weeks, like an internet whack-a-mole, offering to debate anyone who critiques cryptocurrency.
He argues that crypto helps individuals subvert dictators, a somewhat valid claim. However…
He also asserts that fact means it also should be brought into widespread use in pluralistic democracies with advanced monetary systems, such as the US and EU.
This is a fascist position. To understand that, one needs to go back to the 1930’s…
Bottom line: Peter Thiel and Elon Musk have allied with Putin and oil/gas interests to try to undermine the dollar as the world’s reserve currency, in a fascist bid to destroy the US and EU administrative states.
Pick a side.
This intel assessment was developed early this year. Sharing now publicly because it’s becoming a more acute situation.
The corollary to this is that oil/gas interests see undermining states as their surest path towards avoiding both regulation and competition from renewables.
