Annette Alvarez - LD 29 -- attends GCC - remove Peoria from CD 3
Marybel - Add Glendale - they are neighbors, friends and have similar experiences w/ Avondale. DO not include Peoria - they have different experiences. Please create district that will listen to people in our community.
Back to Pine Top --- -- On behalf of 17K members of San Carols Apache Tribe - submits letter - LD 6 and Cd 2 in current drafts - any proposal that fractionates the Am Indian population will dilute their voice.. Imperative to maintain a robust Am Indian opportunity district.
Concern about including all of Flagstaff.
Kimberly Whitney - Lakeside resident - Maps will have a long term impact - we need competitive maps to ensure candidates engage with all their constituents - and eliminate a natural buffer to extremism.. CD 2 in particular is problematic - #CDF010
Jesse Chandley - Poli Sci teacher - apathy one of the biggest problems - enhanced by uncompetitive districts.. Asks for more competitive districts. LDF 050 and LDF 051
Lisa Greene - Lakeside - 2020 candidate was not able to be elected in LD 7 - current lD 7 is not a competitive district - current representative does not engage with us, come to see us or listen to us. In July we asked for a more competitive district.
I support the current proposed maps. I don't feel like I have representation.
Sylvia Allen - politician - support CD 2 map - maintains a rural district - No Maricopa in CD 2
Why re they listening to a politician advocating for the district she wants to run in - w/o even the pretense of a screen. So inappropriate...
And she is wearing her mask under her nose.
being robbed of our voice by the previous commission. we have been taxed w/o representation. Rural voices deserve their own voice. Rural living is not dying.
Jerry Hubbard - Eastern AZ in S Navajo County/White Mountains - -- Water, land management,
Unite the five eastern counties - suggests rough outline
Jandee - member of of White Mountain Apache Tribe and lives in Pine Top (?) - Pine Top, Show Low and Snowflake are part of our community of interest. Keep our school districts united. Want to preserve opportunity to elect candidates of our choice. Compares 2000 and 2010 maps
Mary Ann Joseph - taxpayer for more than 50 yrs in AZ - applaud everyone for their passion - our future is at stake - think about dollars - as we all get squeezed for more dollars. I support the proposed draft maps w/ minor changes.
Randy Ruthier - Taylor - supports LD 6, LD 7, and CD 2 - to preserve a rural way of life
Mary Ann Quintero - member of White Mountain Apache Tribe - important for my nation to have a good relationship with all elected leaders at state and federal levels - government to government relationship is critical and impacts our daily life
Current draft CD 2 map dilutes our voice and concerns me as a tribal member. It takes competitive distort and makes it a safe Republican district. If Republicans have a safe district and don't have to work for every vote.
Holly Hansen - Pine Top/ Lakeside since 1975 - here to speak for the environment - trees and water - want them to be as vibrant and healthy as they are now.
Dave Berry of Apache County - An appeal to ensure a voice for retired people - let's make sure tourist industry, indigenous and retired people - do not overload these districts with those associated with extractive industries.
Five minute bathroom break - meet you right back here!
Back - and over to Avondale
Lynn Peters! Addressing lack of competitive districts. Some have argued this is secondary -- @ndc_doug has explained this is not right. the Courts see competitiveness as equal. only 2 very competitive district -
Walks thorough the districts -- these maps, if enacted are likely to ensure Republicans will always have a majority. Pop deviation is acceptable
Trey Terry - SW valley - five High schools were split in 4 districts - water and transportation are not partisan - our interests (Maricopa) are conflicted w/ Yuma and rural communities.
from Ballotpedia: Terry (Republican Party) ran for election to the Arizona House of Representatives to represent District 13. He lost in the Republican primary on August 28, 2018.
Stand for Children - West Valley deserves more than one voice in Congress which will help us secure federal funding.
Keep Avondale and Goodyear united. Keep VRA in the forefront - we are more than a community of interest.
LanYahn - lack of funding and representation in CD 1 - Phoenix should be an anchor to a Congressional district to secure federal funding . Downtown, Encanto, and neighborhoods up t the the 101. Would support and keep whole small business neighborhoods and LGBTQ communities.
Jeff Spectre - resident of Goodyear - Proposed Draft map of CD 9 and LD 25 - support these maps - for the most part they respect Litchfield, Goodyear and Buckeye share COI -
Summer Baker - Supports compact and city and town boundaries and COI - Ahwatukee and West Chandler - Competitive dividing things 50/50 is unfair to half the population.
She is young.
Richard Thompkins - Elementary School district was split in two - connected to Yuma -- this current map splits us in three - Liked LD 0011 - lists school districts to keep together
Notes that school districts and city of Gila Bend are split in 2 or 3 ways
Lisa - Our district has expanded geographically 20 times - diluting representation - pop deviation is unconstitutional
Thank you for bringing tribal community to the forefront -
On to CD 3 and CD 8 - Avondale, Glendale and Maryvale should be connected - remove Goodyear - note of concern of LD 17 - Tanque Verde should vote with what is LD 10
Natasha - support Latino Coalition maps - lives in proposed LD 22 -- connects w/ W valley - Keep W Phoenix w/Phoenix
Sandra Dowling - LD chair (?) tech questions - LD 25 - percents being split - has a list -- names them -
Jordy - father worked in Maryvale, 43rd and Thomas iOS the center of my life - Peoria does not belong in my district; Glendale does -
Monica - Lives in LD 30 Wants Glendale and Peoria to be switched out...
Max White - Avondale civic leaders - close to Goodyear - invites @ArizonaIRC to do something revolutionary - keep cities together. No reason to split cities - keep kids interest at the forefront. Keep districts even - Our COI ae already here: We are called cities.
Back to Pine Top -- Done. Vice Chair Watchman wrapping up. Adjourned...
Countdown to #FairDistricts - 22 days

Meeting with AZ Legislative leaders and @ArizonaIRC begins.
As the go through pro-forma beginnings - I will point out that any documents received from the AZ Legislature have not been made public. Nearly a year into operations they still act as if they have no official obligations of functional operations.
Minority Leaders Senator Rios, and Representative Reginald Bolding present. Majority Leader Speaker Bowers showing up at 1:00.
So. Very. Interesting. Once again, Commissioner Mehl is exposed as manipulating the @ArizonaIRC for partisan interests. Will it make any difference to how @ErikaNeuberg considers "fair and competitive."
It would not be inappropriate for Commissioner Mehl to resign. He's a cheat. And it is not so much that he cheats - it is that he feels free to cheat without consequence. There is "right" and there is "fair". Com. Mehl has demonstrated he can not be trusted to be either.
Tune in today for the @ArizonaIRC meeting at noon when the AIRC hears from the Arizona State Legislature on the proposed draft maps.
What a farce. In not a good or humorous way.
Hearings in Payson and Window Rock getting underway..... I see four of the five commissioners - Com. Mehl chairing - virtually. Looks like Vice Chair Watchman is in Window Rock and Chair @ErikaNeuberg is in Payson. and there are audio issues...
In introductions they continue to name party and county. Sigh...
Leaving for a bit and will meet you back here in about 30 minutes...
Two quick things before the @ArizonaIRC hearings in Payson and Window Rock get underway this evening. 1) The transcript [Here: tinyurl.com/IRCtranscripts ] and word cloud from the hearing last night -
and 2) the link [ ] to the virtual meeting at noon tomorrow w/ @ArizonaIRC and #ArizonaLegislativeLeaders. Again: look to see if they receive the exalted treatment of the @SALCLeaders or that of other mere mortals.
And a heads up that coverage will start a bit late or be interrupted as I giving an update to volunteers this evening.. But we will post the transcripts pronto...
Mercy -- just had reestablish my credentials on Twitter. Scary. Ok -- all here. And as we await the launch of this hearing - here is the WordCloud from today's meeting. Computer generated, time stamped transcript here: tinyurl.com/IRCtranscripts
And there is a meeting this Thursday at noon with @ArizonaIRC w/Arizona State Legislature Leaders RE: Reports or Memorial submissions. Interesting that Chair @ErikaNeuberg did not mention it at today's business meeting. So odd. Here is the agenda. publicmeetings.az.gov/sites/default/…
Chair Watchman is chairing the hearing tonight. @ErikaNeuberg is in Pinetop w/ the Chair; Com. Mehl is virtual. Audio is troubled. Neither locale looks to be overflowing.
Countdown to #FairDistricts - 22 DAYS!
Waiting for @ArizonaIRC business meeting to begin. This evening is a public hearing on the draft maps in Avondale and Pine Top. More details here: irc.az.gov/public-meeting…
Oh wait - here they are -- what did we miss? On Item agenda #5! WTF? is this #Transparency?
Geneal mapping update - 201 published plans. Q: how many have the @ArizonaIRC actually considered? not more than a handful. Not a great way to generate public trust.
I am so offended by them patting themselves on the back for these "metrics".
