#MLHU is investigating a cluster of COVID-19 cases and there is the strong probability that the Omicron variant of the virus is involved. #LdnOnt#Middlesex /1
MLHU was advised last evening of two COVID-19 cases who screened positive for “S gene target failure” (SGTF) which is a marker for the Omicron variant. These two individuals are amongst a cluster of cases linked to travellers who arrived in London from Nigeria in late November./2
It's important to note that officials are still awaiting Whole Genomic Sequencing of the samples; however, with the travel history and the laboratory screening results, the likelihood of an Omicron cluster is very high. /3
Through its case investigations, MLHU has been able to identify at least 30 COVID-19 cases which are associated with this cluster of suspected Omicron cases. The number of high-risk close contacts continues to increase and is expected to exceed 100. /4
All positive COVID-19 cases and high-risk contacts associated with this cluster are considered to be persons under investigation (PUI) for Omicron. /5
So far, cases associated with this cluster have been linked to several schools and childcare centres; MLHU will be notifying these communities today. /6
This cluster of cases has also been linked to an outbreak at a church called God’s Favourite House on Dearness Drive in south London. The investigations are on-going and additional cases are likely. /7
MLHU continues to follow up with PUIs and close contacts and is advising anyone who is contacted by MLHU case investigators to follow their direction and guidance. /8
Please continue to monitor yourself for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and seek testing immediately if any develop; it’s also very important to stay home and quarantine until test results are received. 9/9

In a significant development, #MLHU will be receiving a 70% increase in its allocation of COVID-19 vaccine over the next several weeks. This will allow #MLHU to deliver more vaccine to more people in our region, with greater speed and efficiency.
This is particularly good timing, as it will allow acceleration of second doses. Protection against the new Delta variant is much better after two doses (about 90% after two doses vs. 30-40% after one dose).
Our region has seen very limited Delta variant activity to date, so we are happy to be able to offer this additional protection before it spreads any further.
#MLHU is working closely w/ officials @LHSCCanada’s University Hospital to manage a significant outbreak among staff & patients. An outbreak on the 4th floor that was declared on Nov. 10 has been expanded today to include all medical floors at the hospital. #LdnOnt#Middlesex /1
Of the 18 new COVID-19 cases being reported by the #MLHU today, 10 have been linked to this outbreak. In all, there have been 34 cases associated with the outbreak including 16 cases among hospital staff, 18 cases among patients and one death.

Additionally, there are currently six cases associated with a smaller, second outbreak on the ninth floor at University Hospital.

So you’ve just been tested for #COVID19. While you wait for your test results (which can be scary!), continue to do your part to #StopTheSpread. Here are a few things to think about. Thread below ⬇️⬇️
While you wait for your test results (typically 24-48 hours):
➡️ Self-isolate until you receive your test result; this means staying at home, away from other members of your household.
/2
➡️ Write down all the places that you have been in the last 14 days, and the names of everyone you have been in close contact with starting 48 hours before your symptoms began.
