“College students say they will be striking indefinitely until Arizona senator agrees to support Freedom to Vote Act” 2/
3/ “Since Monday, a group of 20 college students from the University of Arizona & AZ State have been on hunger strike in an effort to pressure … Kyrsten Sinema, to take action on the passage of crucial voting reform legislation.”
4/ These college students are putting their lives on the line for voting rights because they understand that the 2022 election is a life or death election. They are heroes.
A lot of people are responding with defeatism to the historic news of a college student hunger strike for voting reform. Pls consider amplifying their crucial effort rather than undermining it with this type of negative messaging. They are doing the hard work that we are not. TY.
OMG. Second month??? “Activist Joe Madison Enters Second Month of Hunger Strike for Voting Rights” 12/11/21 16/ pr.com/press-release/…
17/ The hunger striking students also said, “We are honestly confused and disappointed that President Biden hasn’t prioritized this more…We don’t understand why he’s not treating this existential issue [voting rights] w/ the urgency that we are…” @POTUStheguardian.com/us-news/2021/d…
19/ There are myriad ways to support @AZ4Democracy, the 20-plus college students who are on a hunger strike for voting rights (see screenshot below). Here is the Link: un-pac.org/arizona-hunger…
WTAF?! @POTUS just hosted a "democracy summit" and yet no one in his administration has reached out to these college students & others who are on a hunger strike in DC, literally starving, to persuade him to prioritize the #FreedomToVoteAct. What is going on?! cc: @LetsUnpac 1/
Where has the US media been?! If it weren't for @guardian and @Independent, both UK publications, I would not have heard of these college students and their hunger strike for voting rights. The absence of mainstream American coverage is disgraceful. 2/ theguardian.com/us-news/2021/d…
😥"Words don't even describe," college student Georgia Linden told me when I asked how she and the other hunger strikers felt about the Biden administration's failure thus far to reach out to them to discuss prioritizing the #FreedomToVoteAct. 3/
🔥BREAKING: “Harvard’s Larry Lessig joins student hunger strike calling for action on voting rights… ‘The threat is that this election [in 2022] will cement the US as a minoritarian democracy,’ Prof Lessig told The Independent in an interview.” @lessig 1/ independent.co.uk/news/world/ame…
The #FreedomToVoteAct’s provisions for automatic & same day voter registration are also crucial to election security bc voter registration systems & electronic poll books (used at the polls to confirm voter registrations) are very vulnerable to hacking! 2/ politico.com/news/2020/08/3…
My concern is that the intended trigger could have been the disappearance/kidnapping or murder of Mike Pence & perhaps other members of Congress. When Pence and lawmakers escaped (recall that Pence refused to get in the car with the secret service), the coup failed. 1/
I’m not sure what else would have prevented certification that day. Plus, Pence himself reportedly feared that the Secret Service wanted to aid the insurrection. 2/ news.yahoo.com/mike-pence-ref…
Alternatively, maybe the pipe bombs were supposed to explode and didn’t. If they had, Trump would have blamed Antifa and declared martial law. 3/
Fascinating how Team Trump expressed concern about ES&S behind closed doors but conspicuously mentioned them hardly at all publicly (even when they did mention ES&S, they tried to falsely equate them w/ Dominion). Why might this be? Who told them to go easy on ES&S? 1/
ES&S is the biggest vendor “fish” and more obviously corrupt than the other vendors. But they chanted “Dominion, Dominion, Dominion” to the public, giving ES&S a mostly free ride. Why? 2/ jennycohn1.medium.com/es-s-is-americ…
In August 2016, Illinois election officials publicly disclosed that hackers had breached their voter registration system in June that year. 8/29/16 1/ cnn.com/2016/08/29/pol…
Bloomberg has called Illinois ``Patient Zero” for Russia’s attack on our election system. 2/ bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Per Bloomberg, the Illinois breach helped federal agents track where else the hackers had gone. They developed “digital signatures,” including the Russian hackers’ IP addresses, using evidence from the breached Illinois computer banks. 6/13/17 3/ esquire.com/news-politics/…
