Excellent contextual analysis from Prof Andrew Wilson on the complexities of developing/implementing national strategies #NationalPreventiveHealthStrategy
Serious Qs for journalists working at newspapers publishing disinformation in UAP ads: 1. Has your newspaper covered this prominently as an impt story? 2. Has any action been taken by your house committee or whatever is your collective representation? 3. Will you take a stand?
Also, a serious question for @withMEAA : What are you doing about this? As one of your members, I would like to know what actions you are taking?
On the eve of the federal election, @RealOzSAGE held a media briefing this afternoon urging coordinated national action to prevent COVID infections & reduce the toll. 999 COVID deaths reported in past 2.5 weeks; there may be 15,000-18,000 deaths from COVID this year, they warn.
They cite ABS data showing that of deaths occurring up to end of April this year, COVID was the underlying cause of death 89.8% of the time. Currently 761 active outbreaks in aged care. "We need to act to cut deaths" says @RealOzSAGE presentation today.
As of 8 May, at least 145 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have died due to COVID. Almost all these deaths were in 2022. The age-specific rate shows an increased risk of ending up in ICU or dying from COVID vs non-Indigenous Australians of the same age: @RealOzSAGE

@AMSANTaus is calling on NT Govt to take urgent action to address growing COVID concerns: “News of a likely positive case in Timber Creek & multiple positive wastewater results appearing in
numerous remote communities underscores the growing & urgent need for a stronger response.
Calls from @AMSANTaus: 1. That the Big Rivers Region, including Katherine, is placed into lockdown with a mask mandate and the 5 reasons to leave homes, initially for 48 hours until the situation is clear.
2. That where cases are confirmed in a remote community a hard lockdown with the ‘contain and
test’ response is immediately applied. 3. That during the lockdown period steps are taken to introduce vaccine passports across the region.
