CJI NV Ramana: We have assembled this morning to pay homage to Late Justices Jayachandra Reddy, AR Lakshmanan, NP Singh. They made rich contributions to the judgments of this court.
CJI NV Ramana: Late Justice Reddy was appointed additional public prosecutor in 1966 and he was appointed as additional judge of AP HC. He was chairman of AP State Legal Services Board. He was elevated to SC on January 1990. He humbly accepted to continue as ad hoc judge too
CJI: Justice Reddy was equally respected and valued by Bar & Bench. I had appeared before him number of times. In 1994 he was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Excellence award. He worked tirelessly to elevate the conditions of undertrials. He was deeply passionate about role of media
CJI: Justice Reddy loved poetry and music, He passed away in February, 2020. He was a legal stalwart. He took up several roles in Indian Judicial system.
CJI: Justice NP Singh was elevated as a judge of Patna HC at the young age of 42. He became the Chief Justice of Calcutta HC and then he was elevated to Supreme Court. He delivered landmark judgments in the area of civil law and consumer law.
CJI: Justice NP Singh had delivered the award in the Cauvery water dispute case. The award was upheld by the Supreme Court. He leaves behind a rich legacy and he leaves behind fond memories with Bar & Bench.
CJI: Justice AR Lakshmanan had admitted to struggle in the profession before his practice took off. During his five years in Supreme Court, he penned 200 judgments, he was also a part of several constitution bench and was also later a part of 18th Law Commission of India
CJI: He contributed richly to the family law jurisprudence in India. He was an educationist and he was committed to ensure young minds get an environment of academic excellence. His life and times will be remembered for the years to come. I had shared bench with him too
CJI: Justice Lakshmanan was a proud Tamilian. He passed away merely 36 hours after his wife's demise. I pray to God to give strength to the family members of Late Justices Jayachandra Reddy, AR Lakshmanan, NP Singh. May the departed souls rest in peace.
AG KK Venugopal: What is remarkable is CJI and govt of India wanted Justice Reddy to continue and he was sworn in again as a Ad Hoc Judge.
AG: Justice Reddy strived to make the ones in his home town study and then take up respectable professions such as IAS, Doctors, lawyers, etc. He delivered number of significant judgments being part of constitution bench judgments.
AG: Justice Reddy's contribution to development of criminal law stands testimony to his life.
AG: Justice Reddy was also part of Bench that delivered the landmark Kihoto judgement. He was on Bench that had directed speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, who failed to respond to Court’s orders to appear before Court
AG: Justice NP Singh was the ACJ of Patna HC and CJ of Calcutta HC before he was elevated to SC. He delivered about 450 judgments in his tenure at the Supreme Court. It covered arbitration, competition cases, election law and all other areas.
AG: Justice NP Singh in a case relating to acquisition of Cashew factory, he set aside orders by State of Kerala & directed factories to be handed back to factory owners. He showed compassion in cases arising out of Motor Vehicles Claim Tribunal
AG: Justice Lakshmanan often recollected ancient culture of Tamilian heritage with the judges on his bench. He was passionate about Chettinad cuisine.
AG: Justice Lakshmanan had said that there are modern technologies which can help Chief Justices allocate resources and also have a database of cases from the time the case is instituted till its disposed off.
SCBA President Vikas Singh: Justice Jayachandra Reddy was judicious in nature. He used to give more time to junior counsels to argue and thereby boosting their confidence. He was a part of the landmark case of Kihoto Hollan.
Singh: Justice Reddy had stated that ADR is not alternate dispute redressal system but it was to supplement the dispute redressal system
Singh: Justice NP Singh was a crusader for the masses and unparalleled in equity. He had an ideal temperament. The bench of Justices RN Sahai and NP Singh was one of the most equity upholding benches
Singh: Justice Singh had a smooth tenure due to affable nature with both Bench & Bar. He would always remain cool & calm during court hearings I’m told. He was the brightest star of his family.
Singh: Justice AR Lakshmanan had ruled that a political person cannot file a PIL against his political opponent but also said a cause of public importance cannot be sidelined merely because its by a political person.
Singh: Justice Lakshmanan rarely reserved judgments and delivered them within two or three days of concluding the hearings.
Singh: Justice Lakshmanan rallied against oppression of women and wanted equal representation of women in defence, police and other services.
The hearing of this case was paused as the Court rose for lunch.
Hearing has resumed now.

#SupremeCourt to hear a plea by class 12th students who were either declared fail or awarded awarded very less marks in the improvement examination seeking issuance of directions to CBSE to not cancel their original result in which they were declared to have passed
Adv Mamta Sharma: the issue is students who have scored less on evaluation and attempted another exam, they should be allowed to retain their original marksheets
Justice Khanwilkar: CBSE has said they have appeared in exams with open eyes
SC: Improvisation ended up with less marks or fail. admissions will get affected now. so this needs to be considered. its a one time thing
