#THREAD Bosaso Conflict:

Fighting has resumed for the third day in the Somalia's port city of Bosaso between rival units of the Puntland state security forces.
At least 10 people have been killed & more than 30 others wounded in the fighting -per security & medical reports.

Forces from a counter-terrorism unit known as Puntland Security Forces (PSF) have been fighting state troops in the city over the sacking of former PSF commander Mohamud Osman Diano by the regional president, Said Abdullahi Deni.
Diano has refused to leave his position.

Meanwhile, Puntland authorities have reiterated their earlier stance accusing sacked PSF commander Mohamud Diano of inciting violence, but the PSF claim their forces were attacked by forces loyal to President Deni saying it is ‘saddened’ by displacement of civilians.

According to my sources in Puntland, the fighting is now concentrated in the eastern side of the city near the PSF headquarters & the port. The conflict halted the businesses & activities in the town, thousands of families flee from their houses with the death toll rising.

The PSF, an anti-terror unit fighting al-Shabab & IS militia in the region once received support from the US in fighting extremists in Somalia- according to sources requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, the support ended a year ago reason not clear.

Bosaso is one of the two towns in Puntland designated to be held for the upcoming Somalia's elections. Pesident @M_Farmaajo calls for the cessation of hostility in Bosaso, urges all sides to seek peaceful solution to end the deadly conflict.
