Did you know that in 2018 the govt decided to ban this 'dual' MRP Policy & co's were not allowed to charge a different price for water, soft drinks/snacks at premium locations.
But exemptions have been given to service providers like restaurants & hotels.

Current Scenario
These days co.'s are increasing the MRP of goods in ‘selected channels’ with change in net quantity.
Retail shops at places like railways are selling packaged food at higher price with slight diff. in weight to ‘justify’ the unreasonable increase in MRPs.

What does the law say?
Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity Rules, 2011, state that only commodities that weigh equal have to have uniform MRP, whereas commodities that have difference in net quantity can be priced differently, at the discretion of the manufacturer.
