1/ I try to find the balance of compassion & truth/justice - with a determined bias for the former - but that's nearly impossible in wartime - and I've said many times: we are in a #ColdCivilWar. See: the insurrection, gun nuts, the RedHat driven passive genocide via COVID, etc.
2/ I despair for those who think we're at peace - which is the majority of Americans - but they can be helpful resources because they want "normal" again and the RedHats are anything but. The insurrection showed that.
3/ But those who know it's war & claim they consider RedHats the enemy yet attack the Democrats from the Left are baffling to me.
There are only two options right now, but they seem to think there's a third which the Dems are against so there's "no difference" between the big 2.
4/ I do understand that this goal, Liberation?, isn't shared by the Democratic base. But it's equally clear to me that the only way to the workers paradise is through liberal democracy upholding peace & health and not through "blow it up & rebuild" which would be Hell on Earth.
5/ Too often during the #TrumpCrisis (synonymous with the white supremacist fueled #ColdCivilWar) I see the far left engage in direct attacks based on a false equivalence of Dems = Neoliberal = GOP, because they think their goals aren't coming fast enough.
6/ As I said up top, I try to balance compassion with justice. And I'm trying not to condemn these people too quickly because they can be important allies with many of my shared goals. And my 'war' talk makes me wary to declare a 3rd party an enemy.
7/ But millions of lives are at stake so how can we indulge attacks from the Left on the Dems, who are the only hope we have to fight off the white supremacist fascists. I'd love to have a cease-fire with the far left, a way of saying items will be tabled until the first war ends
8/ I recognize that every time an offer of pushing off one goal in favor of another - the 15th Amendment 50 years before 19th - is a delaying tactic. And I'm searching for a way to ensure that this won't be one.
9/ One way is dispel the myth that there's another alternative to the Democrats, that accelerating the destruction of society so the revolution can arrive is a messianic dystopia that I will actively fight against.
Different intentions, but same horrible end and means.
10/ As it stands, I reluctantly need to act as if anyone attacking the Democrats is seeking their failure. Charitably, I know that some do this out of messianic hope for benevolent goals. But in my eyes, good intentions are no excuse for cruel actions with predictable ends.
11/ I'm working on a way to describe a workable cease-fire between the liberals and the Far Left so we can have a unified front against the RedHats. Because I want peace on the good-guy side. And we must win this #ColdCivilWar.
75.02/ Over Shabbos I read my family the #JortsTheCat story & much fun was had by all. I uploaded a PDF of the story with OCR text from images I found on twitter. The pure pics are (1) images of the cats & (2) a "I can't believe it's not Jorts" joke. drive.google.com/file/d/15FziVO…
75.03/ Had one of those theodicy-inducing funerals this morning. My neighbor, Sari Shalmon zt'l, passed away too young. Her life was dedicated to acts of kindness, teaching Torah and teaching science, and selfless giving. Very sad, hard loss. .ת.נ.צ.ב.ה rpry.org/about/people/1…
74.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight continues. This week: Sneakers (1992) with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, Dan Akroyd, really an amazing cast. Underrated film.
73.02/ Find someone who loves you as much as a self-appointed gabbai loves banging on the bimah before shemona esrei to remind us to remember Al-Hanissim (or yell out "Asher Yatzarta!" at mussaf)
73.03/ I must have spent half of my waking hours over Shabbas in shul or benching. And as a synagogue enthusiast, I like the rarity of needing 3 sifrei Torah, but holy schnitzel it takes a long time.
72.03/ Re: the embarrassing #Steelers loss and the state/fate of the team going forward; this thread is pretty much on the money. This is one year in the midst of a rebuild. (I'd like to see the DC go too, though. He's coasted on talent too long)
71.02b/ Dr. @Doc_RPS Press Schwartz's talk was excellent and we had a pretty good crowd for a Saturday (night). We all learned quite a lot and I'm proud to have had my children there to listen and absorb. The Q&A was pretty raucous though, but nothing she couldn't handle.
70.02/ So many self-appointed smart guys told me that Garland was doing nothing. They were wrong & caused panic because they are impatient Dunning-Kruger cynics seized by the #Literalist fallacy that if they didn't see DOJ's work, it didn't exist. washingtonpost.com/national-secur…
70.03/ I’m just one man, but if the supply chain problems are caused by not enough little packets of soy sauce/spicy mustard/duck sauce then I can help out immediately.
I’m also willing to propose they be functionally considered currency instead of bitcryptocoins.
