2021 has been one crazy year for me.

Recently took a break from twitter as I needed to think & reflect in solitude.

My biggest learnings / relearnings of 2021 - A thread as random as my thoughts. :))

#2021Wrapped
2/20
#Life is fragile.

We never know when it shall be our last breath. Covid just reinforced this.

Do good. Be good. Expect nothing.
Make mistakes but have no regrets.
Forgive . Make peace often .
Live life each day to the best of your abilities.

That's all that can be done!
3/20
#InvestResponsibly

Always ensure you have a nominee to all your investments. Don't take on unnecessary loans.

Make a WILL !

Inform your spouse / family.
Document everything correctly &
responsibly.

Else, this becomes an added pain later on for the bereaved family !
4/20
#Empathy is an underrated trait.

Take a walk in others' shoes to get some perspective on their problems without judgement.

Covid threw up different challenges to each one of us.
All of us think our problems are more difficult & thereby deserve more attention, don't we ?
5/20
#Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.
-Cicero.

Make gratitude your attitude.
Count your blessings each day.

We have no clue how lucky we are.
There are folks out there who would kill to have our bad days !!
6/20
#DecisionMaking
Never make hasty decisions based on a πŸ‚ Market Return.

Be it quitting your job to become a TRADER / calling yourself FINANCIALLY INDEPENDENT / extrapolating FUTURE RETURNS based on 2020-2021 returns.

It is easy to confuse LUCK for SKILL in such markets!πŸ˜…
7/20
#Courage and #Intent are all that are needed to make a difference.

Saw so many folks go beyond their call of duty during this pandemic.

Saw strangers get together to help a third person in need.

Yes. Corruption exists.
But so does humanity.
Refuse to believe otherwise!
8/20
#MentalLiquidity
The ability to CHANGE your mind without being STUCK on a particular viewpoint.
Be it people , Investment thesis , NFT , Crypto, Emerging Technologies ...

We don't know what the future holds , so let us be open to learning & revisiting things always !!
9/20
#Contentment

We all secretly envy the other.
Social media has ensured this.

Don't let it get to you!
No two people can have the same life.

And why compare ourselves when each one of us is different?

Keep yourself as the benchmark & learn to better yourself.
That's all!
10/20
#ConsumeWisely

We are what we consume.

From the food we eat , to the air we breathe , to the information we read , to the people we associate ourselves with .

Ultimately all of them influence us.

Don't make your body & mind a garbage dump by consuming rubbish.
11/20
#FOMO is real.

Looking at others' returns we feel left out. Afterall who doesn't wish to earn money quickly ?πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

But this makes us do really stupid things which cost us dearly ultimately.

STICK to your investment approach & SHUT OUT the noise from Social Media.
12/20
#Equanimity is the key*

Not everyone who critiques you is an enemy.
Not everyone who appreciates you has the best interests for you.

DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY either ways. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
We become narcassistic inadvertently.
Stay humble always.

(*Extends to all aspects of life )
13/20
#Grief is handled differently by all.
Let's not generalise how to deal with it.

An emotionally strong person may not show it.
Someone else might breakdown.
Few might go silent completely.
Others may openly talk about it & cry.

To each his own. Give space & respect.
14/20
Know what matters.

SAY NO OFTEN to make time for those things & people THAT/WHO MATTER !

Stop seeking validation of random people online !

Instead try to be content as an individual & try to maintain harmonious relationships with those who matter.
15/20
#HumourYourself

Something happened. You were stupid . Laugh it off !!

We all do stupid things at times ( me majorly πŸ€“)

So what ? You made a mistake.
Big deal ! Laugh it off !
New day...new beginning ... πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

"A day without laughter is a day Wasted" - Charlie Chaplin.
16/20
#Hustling is overrated !

Everywhere we see people achieving something or the other ! It gives us a complex of sorts.

We don't need to constantly improve ourselves.

It's alright to not be overtly ambitious.
It's alright to be average.

Be happy. Now that is important!
17/20
#HealthIsWealth

Both husband and I got hit hard by Covid. We recovered soon as we are pretty fit.

But I realised, HEALTH COMES FIRST.
No amount of money in this world will matter if one doesn't have the health to enjoy it !

So get off that couch & get fit.
BEGIN NOW !
18/20
#Discipline is everything

To be successful in life , we need consistency.
Nothing can be achieved or maintained without it.
Everything can be lost without it !

Be it fitness , investing , inculcating multi disciplinary traits or even being happy !
Yes, think about it !
19/20
The lil' things matter the most !

We seek solace in expensive materialistic things but in reality it is the simple pleasures of life that enrich us !!

Learn to find happiness in them & life shall get so much simpler ! So much easier ! So much better !
20/20

Wishing you all a Happy New Year 2022 ! πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Do remember , everything is a just a reflection of how we perceive it to be.
Good , Bad or Ugly.

Let's focus on WHAT WE CAN CONTROL & learn to let go of the rest !

P.S- Thank you so much everyone for enriching my life !! πŸ™

Good books are a smooth read.
The great ones aren't.

Why so? πŸ€”

They force you to pause,to reflect & think hard.
They make you question yourself.

Sharing few of my takeaways from one such exceptional book of 2021.

Thank you @naval & @EricJorgenson for this ! :))

Meaning,
Leverage specific knowledge -> Scale it -> Get wealthy.

Takes decades as one needs time to figure out what they can UNIQUELY provide.

But FIND & BUILD SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE for it can't be taught & can only be learnt.

I first read this book in 2009 after losing 80% of my monies on Penny stocks as a student when the 2008 drawdown happened.

Thought it was too simple !

Now in 2021, I think this is one of the best books to absorb & implement.

Investing means different things to different people - Be it health/ career/external assets with an intent to reap benefits in future.

So then is everyone an Investor ?
No.
When people do different things with even same investment products we give it a different name.

Investing is a PERSONAL Plan .
It's NOT a product . NOT a procedure.

One needs to have a clear picture of one's financials BEFORE making an investment plan.

Investment products comprise of items with distinct characteristics DESIGNED to satisfy a particular need.

πŸ”ΈOn How to Minimise Risk ?

* Look at long term volatility of Cash Flows ( assuming Financial Statements paint a fair picture )

* Check if business generates Free Cash Flow ( FCF). This ensures company is unlikely to be wiped out at the bottom of the cycle.

πŸ”ΈManagement Integrity matters.

You notice good governance only when it is gone !
Hence unless one has demonstrable proof on a long term basis that people are honest , consider them to be crooks .
Cynical approach but helps save us from losses !

The Courage To Be Disliked is an extremely logic oriented look at happiness and life.

Snippets of it may sound patronising at times but it leaves you with more questions than answers - It forces you to think!πŸ™‚

The world in itself is simple. Life in itself is simple.

It is WE who make it complicated.

How ?
By Comparison.

We all live in a subjective world that we OURSELVES have given meaning to from OUR perspective.

So how can then they be the same for all ? πŸ™‚
3/28
Ever observed how the world seems beautiful at times , sometimes mean & selfish , at times helpful ?

So does the world actually keep changing or does our subjective world change due to the change in our projections ? πŸ€”

Something worth reflecting upon !

Invest in yourself. Read.
Self educate. Think in isolation !

Everything in life can teach you when you possess the right mindset.
Read across a wide spectrum, for the scenes change but the behaviours & outcomes don't.

How to go about #READING & #THINKING effectively.
πŸ‘‡

First Principles Thinking requires us to delve deeper & question everything until one is left with the fundamental truth in essence.

Deconstruct to effectively
Reconstruct ! ( Both in times of Greed & Gloom )

* How to #Focus *

Few young adults asked me ways to improve focus.
Sharing what I follow.

To begin with :
* Turn off all gadgets
* Sit in a room & read hard copies of books / newspapers
* Primarily try to focus & absorb the content
* Read aloud if necessary
2/5

* First read with an intention of consuming content . Read slowly
* Gradually shift to reflecting upon it
* Then memorising points
* Finally writing takeaways

* Don't use mobile / laptop for reading when developing attention span . Mostly they are counter productive !
3/5

* It takes time to develop focus.
Won't happen overnight , especially given the addiction to mobile & social media.
So begin consciously & slowly !

* Gradually increase reading speed & time & retention

* Switch to kindle only when comfortable level of focus is reached
