I landed a deal with a $400M global fashion empire in 6 months of writing online
And made $2K/mo working for 2 days a month
Listen...
You can hit $5K months in your first 6 months freelancing
Even if you just learned a skill and have no track record to your name
Here’s how👇
Before we start…
I must tell you...
The information in this thread changed my life…
And took me from working $200 gigs to working on 5-figure gigs.
This is the first time I'll ever talk about it.
So please RT the first tweet to help your friends
Thank you.
Let's start.
1: Focus less on how you start
Many new freelancers are too worried about landing the perfect clients
So you spend the most time looking through all the social media sites for 13-figure clients
Or trying to find the perfect tools to start…
Without ever starting.
I started my freelancing career by getting gigs from job boards and sites like Upwork.
It worked out for me.
I had no idea one could get clients from social media till years later.
But I still advocate for Upwork and others…
Because that's where I got my first 2 big deals.
I was just 6 months into freelancing and 2 months on Upwork
When I saw the job post on Upwork-
“Writer wanted for Fashion brand.”
My lazy ass was about to put the phone down and go to sleep when I decided to try my luck.
I had no samples. But I sent a proposal and left Upwork
5 minutes later...
I got a notification from the job owner 🤯
“Can you start today?”
I jumped... “What? Start what?”
She sent me an NDA to sign.
Then she told me who I was going to be working for…
A 9-figure fashion giant almost everyone knows and shops from.
As a beginner…
Don't worry too much about getting the biggest clients.
And focus more on putting the reps in.
The more time you spend trying to find your perfect client…
The more time you lose on doing some work that will get you your perfect client.
Action plan:
•Pick a platform
•Reach out to 20-30 prospects a day
•Pitch to two 9-figure global businesses a day (you may get lucky)
2: Train your mindset
I will always hammer on this nail...
Because you cannot achieve great things with a small mindset.
You feel everyone who has $100,000 is a fraud and thief?
You'll never make $100,000.
Because your mind is limited.
I could have earned more working for this brand.
And possibly hit 6-figures from 1 gig alone if I had put my price just a bit higher.
But it was still my highest pay at the time.
And I was happy with it.
As you improve on your skill…
Improve your perception of self.
Know how much you're worth and what your skill is worth to the client.
That's the only thing that will take you from measly pay to 6-figure months in a few years.
Action plan:
• Set financial goals for yourself.
• Invest in yourself to build confidence
• Hang around people doing better than you.
3: Become a master at your skill -
You see…
Clients want to hire who’s best for the job.
When I was hired by this fashion giant, I had no idea I was not the only freelancer picked that day.
Until 2 days later...
The client showed me what everyone wrote
And told me I was the best of them all…
So they were going to drop off the others and move forward with me.
That's how I landed the deal and went on to work with them for months.
You've taken one or two courses?
Good.
But learning doesn't stop there.
Practice until you get so good that you're undeniable.
Action plan: Dedicate at least 2 hours a day to improving your skill.
• Practice your skill for 1 hour daily
• Analyze 1 successful case study a day.
• Read 30 pages of a useful book a day
4: Select a market with a problem
This is where positioning starts.
A question I've been asked a lot by new freelancers is:
“How do I choose the right niche as a new freelancer?”
Don't worry about the niches yet.
Instead…
Find a big problem and solve it.
If you solve that problem for 1 person…
You can solve problem for 2 people…
And 1,000 people.
The more people you help, the more your prices go up.
I already told you I had no samples when pitching this client…
Because I had never worked in the Fashion industry before.
But I positioned myself as a problem solver by asking myself these questions:
• Why do they need me?
• What big problem do they have?
• How can I solve this problem?
• What do other people do?
• What can I do better?
• How best can I communicate my offer?
At the start…
You don't have to limit yourself to an industry.
Find the best way to solve a common problem in a large market…
And you'll always have someone to pay you for your offer.
If you're still looking for a profitable niche,
Then focus on the big 3:
• Health
• Wealth
• Relationships.
But know that everything is profitable once you find a problem to solve.
Be a problem solver.
Action plan:
• Find a problem your skill solves
• Verify that the market that needs this problem is large enough
• Use your skill to solve that problem and get the best result
5: Forget the results. Focus on the process
I decided to write this thread because someone asked me
“How do I go from beginner to pro after taking 2 copywriting courses?”
I don't regard myself as a pro…
And you shouldn't be focused on that either.
You must not stop learning even after you've made 7-figures for yourself and 10-figures for clients.
So enjoy the process instead.
Treat yourself as a beginner everytime…
Because there's always something you don't know.
Put yourself out there.
And deliver great results
As you reach out to more people…
Land more clients
And share the results…
You increase your perceived value.
And more people regard you as a pro.
More people experiencing the same problem you solve find you to solve it for them.
Action plan:
•Work for 1 client
•Create a case study
•Land more clients solving the same problem
•Create a social media account
Share your results
•Make connections and build a following
•Reach out to prospects and get inbound leads
•Raise your prices.
That's how you go from $200 gigs to $5K+/mo retainers
-Keep building your skill
- Focus less on finding the best niche
- Get a market with a big problem
- Solve the problem for 1 person… Then 2, 3, 4…
The better you get, the higher your value, and the more you demand.
