New Year's resolutions are a cop-out.

If you’re serious about getting what you want, do this instead.

The definitive Annual Review template: 28 questions to make your 2022 better than your 2021.

Thread 👇
If you became a better version of yourself every single year, where would you be right now?

What would you have?
How would you feel?
What types of things would you do?

How would your position in life be different?
Unfortunately, we're not iPhones. There's no option to update our software while we sleep.

But we can update. Or, upgrade, rather.

And there is no single activity better suited to do that than the Annual Review.

Yet, somehow 99% of people will not make the time to do it.
Every year we go to a cabin to ring in the ball drop.

A few of my close friends and family get together to play games, drink too much, & eat great food.

I love it.

It also happens to be the perfect time to disconnect from the day-to-day and do some much-needed reflection.
Each year I try to enlist the crew in my little annual ritual.

And — shocker — each year I’m met with blank faces (if not looks of total disgust).

Hey, I get it.

Pausing the festivities for what seems like glorified journal time is… a hard sell.
So this year, I’m going to try my luck with you fine folks.

As you kick back over the next few days, carve out some time away from your family.

Go hit a coffee shop or wall yourself off in the den.

Whatever it takes.
What you’re about to do really can be life-changing.

It's why I'm comfortable being Mr.Buzzkill every year in that cabin (and will continue to do so).

Take pride in knowing that you're doing something most people won't.

Taking intentional action to create the life you want.
//How It Works//

The process is simple.

Reflect: We start by looking back over the last year to get a 50,000 foot view.

Reveal: From this new perspective, we'll uncover key insights & lessons.

Plan: From those insights, we'll build an actionable plan for 2022.
//The Prompts//

Below are a collection of prompts organized into 6 categories.

These questions are designed to get the wheels turning. Some may be uncomfrotable or hard to answer at first.

Don’t be too precious.

Embrace rabbit holes & keep an open mind.

Happy Hunting 👇
1: Work / Projects

What were my 3 most significant accomplishments this year?

What new projects did I start?

What projects did I leave unfinished & why?

What projects gave me the most energy/joy?

What am I most proud of achieving?
2: Experiences

What “photo-book” worthy experiences did I have this year?

Where did I spend the most time? (physical space)

Which experiences didn’t bring me as much joy as I thought?

Which surprised me?

Tip: Trouble remembering? Go through your photo roll to jog your memory
3: Relationships

Which 3 people did I spend the most time with?

How did each of them change who I am (good or bad)?

Who sapped my energy the most?

Who supported me and pumped me up?

Who were my primary role models? What traits did I adopt by being around them?
4: Skills / Growth

What new skills did I develop this year?

What new beliefs or mindsets did I add to my toolbox?

Which ones did I leave behind?

How am I different than the person I was last year?

What have I gotten significantly better at?

What huge leaps did I make?
5: Emotions

When did I feel the most alive?

When did I feel most stressed?

What emotional patterns did I identify in myself?

What caused me the most anxiety?

What made me excited to get out of bed in the morning?
6: Knowledge

What are the top 3 lessons I learned this year?

If I could impart one piece of wisdom to my friends & family from this year, what is it?

What book had the biggest impact on my thinking?
Don’t stress about answering them all.

Some are simply different ways into the same subject. Some may resonate while others do not.

Some may send you down a path that has nothing to do with the question at all.

It's a brainstorm.

If there’s an insight to be had, find it.
Take your time here, don't rush the process. Take breaks and circle back with a fresh mind.

Give yourself a few days to ruminate.

In part 2, we'll break down how to convert these insights into an actionable game plan for 2022.

What if you could control your motivation?

Let’s talk about Mimesis.

What is it and how can we leverage it to reach our goals & accelerate our success.

Thread 👇
Memesis is a concept coined by French philosopher René Girard & popularized in the book ‘Wanting’ by Luke Burgis.

In this thread we’ll…

1. Break down the core concepts behind mimesis

2. Explain how it can help us build more lasting motivation
But first, a disclaimer.

This is not a book about how to be more productive.

And I can’t entirely say that the author would agree with the application I’m proposing in this thread.

The to-do list is broken.

It’s time for an upgrade.

Make these 6 tweaks to transform your list from an anxiety pit to a production machine.

Thread 👇
It started out with good intentions.

A useful tool to guide you to your goals.

These days, the to-do list seems to do more harm than good.

Bloated. Cumbersome. Overwhelming.

But all is not lost…
With a few quick tweaks we can take back our to-do list and get more done with our limited time:

1. Rebrand, reframe
2. Make an Inbox
3. Think first, execute later

Presidents: they’re not just great leaders & politicians…

They’re extemely high acheivers, too.

From breaking procrastination to reducing decision fatigue, here are my favorite productivity practices from America's past presidents.
The Roosevelt Dash

In college, Roosevelt was known to collect hobbies leaving little time for his studies.

To cope, he was forced to work in short, extremely intense bursts of concentration.

In other words, no coffee breaks, no chit chat, & definitely no Twitter.

The truth is, we fail a lot.

"When Plan A fails, remember there are 25 more letters" — Chris Guillebeau

As an entrepreneur, failure is part of the game.

We know this by now.

But no matter how many times we hear "fail fast, fail often" or "fail up," the emotional blow still hurts.

I love talking about goals...

But I also love learning from Twitter's best thinkers.

@thedankoe just so happens to be fluent on the topic.

I dove deep through his treasure trove of tweets & hand-picked my favorite lessons.

But first, why goals?
1: Goals = Happiness

The truth is, goals make life hard.

They require discipline, work ethic, and a whole boatload of sacrifice.

Why in the world would you put yourself through that?
