🚨🚨 Covid19 cases in Wales are up 78% week on week.

Both cases per 100k and the positivity rate (% of tests positive) at record reported levels.

➡️ Cases less relevant with #Omicron so much more transmissible - patients in intensive care up to 36 from 32 (55 unoccupied beds)
Wales - 14% increase in past week in #Covid19 patients in ventilated beds & 72% lower than last year

➡️Patients in general beds up 88% but 63% lower than last year

Deaths linked to #Covid19 in Wales have been trending down for about 6 weeks and currently 92% lower than this time last year.

With significant rises in cases and daily figures those reported with a positive test - total deaths from all causes will be a better metric this winter
The positivity rate in Wales is highest in Rhondda Cynon Taf where 54.3% of tests carried out in the 7 days to 31 Dec coming back positive.
A further 129 patients definitely or probably caught #Covid19 in Welsh hospitals in the w/e 26 Dec - up from 62 in previous week

Takes the total to 8,720 since the start of the pandemic

#Wales #COVID19 #Vaccine Tracker as at 04 January

1️⃣ 2,492,440 first doses given out - 90.6% of 12 and over

2️⃣ 2,307,957 second doses given out - 83.9% of 12 and over

3️⃣ 1,718,726 booster / third doses given out - 62.5% of 12 and over

🚨🚨 Mark Drakeford - ‘The latest figures suggest staff absences from illness and isolation across the Welsh NHS is 8.3%’

FACT CHECK

➡️ 3.6% of staff are absent from work for Covid-19 related reasons ❌

He is including other reasons for sickness which is disingenuous
Those staff who are off sick for other reasons should not be included.

Data in England over the past month shows little difference in the numbers of staff absent for non Covid reasons.

There are more staff absent for non Covid reasons than those absent due to Covid.

Chat (video thread) with @rickedwards1 on the latest #Covid situation across the UK

◼️ Seeing a rapid rise in cases across the country and England has the lowest case rate

◼️ More patients in hospitals but good news is we are seeing little change in patients in intensive care
◼️ Deaths 83% lower than this time last year and vast majority of most vulnerable had a booster vaccine

◼️ Likely we will see an increase in deaths but remember the daily deaths figures are people who die with a positive test - so need to look at total deaths to get real picture
◼️ 61% of patients in intensive care unvaccinated. If you compare two people with similar characteristics, the unvaxxed person is more likely to be admitted than the vaxxed person

Varies by age and personal characteristics. We know those who are obese are overrepresented in ICU

🚨🚨 @rickedwards1 reading a text from listener on BBC 5 live - ‘The unvaccinated are blocking the hospitals impose vaccine passports everywhere’

➡️ Do they read any old misinformation these days?

➡️ Where are the facts that unvaccinated are blocking up hospitals?
For the latest week there are just under 1 in 5 patients in critical care have Covid19 - regardless of vaccine status.

There are more unoccupied beds than Covid patients.

46% of admissions with Covid overall are unvaccinated.

In Wales the average age of Covid patients is 74
I have had two vaccines myself and not opposed to them at all. Get the booster if you want one - if your vulnerable they can be the difference between serious illness or not.

But the media keep peddling attacks on unvaccinated every day with false information.

🚨🚨 Boris Johnson - ‘To travel to some countries you need a booster to be considered fully vaccinated and its likely within weeks this will become the norm’

➡️ He is quite clearly about to remove the Covid pass from millions who are double vaccinated if they do not get booster
A booster wont stop you catching Covid-19 or passing it on. Its is a milder variant and millions also had Covid.

Absolute nonsense to mandate everyone to have a booster to live their lives for a variant that is significantly less worse to put an impact on NHS.
My point about Boris Johnson does not relate to other countries asking for it - its when he changes it in this country to go to the theatre etc.
