🧵: On Jan. 6, 2021, 147 Members of Congress attempted to overthrow the results of a free and fair election, in direct support of the deadly insurrection former President Trump incited at the United States Capitol. They didn’t do it alone — corporations were at their side. 1/14
Despite these Members failing to uphold their oaths to the Constitution and placing our democracy in jeopardy, corporations have given these insurrectionist Members $18,000,000 over the past year. 2/14
As the Republican Party continues to spread the Big Lie and introduce and pass restrictive voting laws in states across the country, corporations haven’t stopped funding their campaigns. 3/14
The leaders of the insurrection, like Representative Mo Brooks and Senators Ted Cruz, and Josh Hawley, who pushed the baseless fraud claims and rallied the crowd before they stormed the Capitol, have received millions in support. 4/14
.@RepMoBrooks (R-AL) spoke at the January 6th rally, his staff repeatedly helped insurrection organizers, and Brooks said he’d be proud if they did. 5/14
.@SenTedCruz (R-TX) organized Senators to overturn the election, and led the baseless objections to Arizona’s certified electors. 6/14
.@SenHawleyPress (R-MO) saluted the protestors with a raised fist before leading the baseless objections to Pennsylvania’s duly certified electors. 7/14
Nevertheless, corporate PACs have given millions to Rep. Brooks and Sens. Cruz, and Hawley. 8/14
Corporate PACs also funded the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) through its dark-money arm, and helped build the riotous crowd for the insurrection. 9/14
Corporations like @comcast, @WalMart, @AltriaNews, and @Centene were some of the biggest donors to RAGA, who helped organize the rally on January 6th. 10/14
Many corporations put on a great PR show after January 6th, but ultimately decided that their political influence to protect their corporate tax handouts was more important than the freedom to vote and protecting our democracy. 12/14
Over the next several weeks, @StopBigMoney will keep holding these corporations accountable by diving deep into the corporations across industries which have continued to support insurrectionists. 13/14
And we’ll continue to fight back against the ongoing threat posed by January 6th by advocating for immediate passage of the #FreedomToVoteAct and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. 14/14

THREAD 🧵 : We’ve released our updated Dark Money report on groups that have capitalized on the Big Lie and the January 6 insurrection by funding efforts to restrict voting.
🎉 #HR1, the #ForThePeopleAct just passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. This is a big deal.
A thread 🧵
The #ForThePeopleAct would:
- Get dark money out of our politics
- Take on corporate special interests
- Protect voting rights
- End partisan gerrymandering
#HR1 first passed in the House two years ago, and it’s still a priority because @SpeakerPelosi knows that we need to unrig our democracy and return power to the people.
🚨 THREAD: Over the holiday, the @AP reported that #BigMoney20 Senator David Perdue made a "stunning" financial gain by selling off MILLIONS in Cardlytics stock right before the company's value plummeted…
1/20
…Senator Perdue, a former Board Member at Cardlytics, then went on to buy back Cardlytics stock after an "unexpected leadership shakeup."
That shakeup may have been unexpected for everyone else, but it sure seems fishy that Senator Perdue was able to anticipate it.
2/20
👎 Let's be crystal clear. This is just another example of Senator David Perdue's seemingly endless corruption.
We joined our partners on a letter to the presidential candidates calling on them to make sure reform is a top priority on their campaigns. What's in it? Six big steps:
1/8
1. Expand the right to vote and make it an easier, more inclusive process.
2/8
2. The executive and legislative branches must operate under stronger, more enforceable ethics laws.
