🏥Vaccine/booster & #Omicron-wave hospitalizations in Miami shows high hospital admissions in unvaccinated— 📌~6x more than 2-shot vaccinated, & 📌~14x more than booster vaccinated. ➡️This also means #Booster shot gives >2x more protection vs 2-shots 👀

2) this matches the trend in NYC — unvaccinated hospitalizations soaring while vaccinated have much lower hospitalizations- albeit also increasing — but it’s not split by booster status in the NYC data.
3) And yes, the majority of hospitalization surge recently are for #COVID19, not just incidental infections. And even if they are incidental, hospital acquired ones are also really sad and shameful we don’t protect patients enough.
4) I expect ICU disparity between unvaxxed and boosted to be even larger than for total hospitalizations.

2) to be clear on the English - “130% of normal” means 30% excess. But this is still 3000 excess per week for a population of ~60 million, which is 18% the size of the US. Not going to convert it but it’s not small. Can we please stop with the “mild”???
3) Australia also seeing surge in severe outcomes. This is not as mild as we think it will be.

Tons of students march out in protest against #Omicron. Brooklyn Tech is the largest high school in the US 🇺🇸 - with ~6000 students in this school alone! Maybe the kids & teachers together are trying tell the at-home / studio-isolated TV pundits something about #COVID19 risk…
2) This high school is 7 floors full of students! There is “absolutely no distancing” among students in crowded classrooms and halls of this ~6000 person high school.

NEW—Dutch🇳🇱 govt is advising *medical grade masks* be worn in busy outdoor spaces & **at all times in indoor public areas** where different households mingle—in all places where social distancing is impossible, such as shopping, markets & demonstrations.

2) masks should be of type 2 medical standard rather than cloth, because these ‘offer slightly better protection against the emission of virus particles’ than non-medical masks and also offer more protection to the wearer, the OMT said.
3) Type 2 medical masks include the light blue pleated masks widely available in shops and pharmacies. Vulnerable people, however, should use a thicker FFP2 (ie KN95) medical mask when possible.

📍Finland govt is warning that #LongCovid could persist for months after an initial infection, could be emerging as a chronic disease—1 in 2 adults and ~2% of children may experience prolonged symptoms connected to #COVID19–even if mild/asymptomatic cases!

3) The Finnish institute of health and welfare considers an illness chronic when it has a major impact on public health and the national economy through lowered working capacity and strains on healthcare.

OMG—Train collides with a crashed plane just 2 seconds after @LAPDFoothill police pull the pilot from the wreckage earlier today. The bystander who recorded this was nearly hit by large flying debris. LAPD officer’s body cam further below👇—amazing heroism 🙏
2) here is the LAPD body cam of the harrowing rescue just before the train hit.
3) I’m am curious - why didn’t the train have time to be warned to slow down? The police seemed to have had time to put up yellow police barrier tape across the street. Maybe there wasn’t a direct line to the conductor? I’m asking as a kid who grew up near train tracks.
