The protests were spurred on by secessionist acts by Bosnia Serb leader Milorad Dodik.
A month ago, the parliament of the Republika Srpska entity adopted a series of laws by which it intends to form parastatal institutions and even the own Republika Srpska Army by May 2022.

This has attracted a lot of attention from Western officials, who are threatening sanctions against Dodik.
Meanwhile, right-wing leaders such as Orban and Putin are openly supporting Dodik, opening up a proxy battleground that would endanger not only BiH, but also the EU.
3/
Bosnian citizens expected concrete moves from the int'l community, but the EU envoys have merely ignored Dodik's announcements.
Instead, they focused on mediating the negotiations over the changes to the electoral law or, in case of Varhely, even openly colluded with Dodik.

The war survivors, returnees, as well as young people who didn't experience the war are extremely upset.
The secession of the RS would be a reward to those responsible and convicted for the genocide. This would send an encouraging message to aspiring génocidaires worldwide.
5/
The feeling of insecurity was just reinforced during the past week that preceded the unconstitutional "Day of RS".
Serb nationalists throughout Serbia and the RS entity have spread anti-Muslim hate, threats, and warmongering messages calling for another Srebrenica genocide.
6/
The purpose of the protest is not only to invoke some kind of "moral obligation" of the West to "do something" in BiH.
International High Representative, Christian Schmidt has a mandate and executive powers to implement and defend the Dayton Peace Agreement.
7/
In early 90s, generation of my parents took part in peace protests singing "Samo da rata ne bude". It ended with 100.000 dead and a genocide.
Therefore, it is crucial to contact your political reps in national parliaments and the European Parliament. Make them aware!

Besides the central protest in Brussels, events will be organised also in Sarajevo, London, Washington DC, Ottawa, Oslo, Rome, Stockholm, Geneva, Manchester, Toronto, New York, Munich and others.
In Sweden, the Bosnian diaspora will #ProtestForBosnia in at least 8 cities.

Dutch MEP @thijsreuten joined hundreds of Bosnians protesting for peace and stability in BiH.
This protest in Brussels gathered also other MEPs, friends of BiH, who spoke at the event.
As a reminder, a group of French delegates, including two MEPs, attended the illegal "Day or RS" yesterday in Banja Luka and met whit genocide deniers.
The idiological rifts between progressive and illiberal MEPs in Brussels are deep and tangible.
Every time my mum asks if there’s a new war looming over Bosnia, I bend the truth a bit. I don’t want to think how I’d tell her that we might need to flee again.
Orbán, Dodik & Co. are ready to wreak havoc and cause a war.
This holiday season marks exactly 29 years since my family and I found shelter in an improvised refugee camp in Zenica, less than two months after we fled my hometown of Jajce.
After the Army of RS seized Jajce, we joined thousands of other civilians fleeing their homes.

When the war started, I was only a year old, and too young to be conscious of what was happening around me.
Today I am old enough to recognize how power-thirsty populists are using similarly dangerous words and actions to the Serb nationalists of the early 90s.

Dear world, don't say you weren't warned about a potential conflict in BiH.
Here's the leader of Bosnian Serbs, Milorad Dodik threatening with the Republika Srpska withdrawing from the BiH Armed Forces on @bbcworldservice#Weekend.
BiH's High Rep, Christian Schmidt is clear: Dodik's actions lead to the undoing of the #Dayton Peace Agreement.
Dodik dismissed his claims using the same words as the Russian Amb to UN: Schmidt is a private person, and his UN report was written by the "Muslim intel agency".

In her strong response, @arminkahelic rebuffed Dodik's claims by stressing Schmidt was appointed by PIC, legitimately representing the int'l community.
"There is no Muslim intelligence service. In fact, the BiH Intelligence Service is headed by a Bosnian Serb", Helić added.

Ahmed Hrustanović (@E71HRG), an imam from #Srebrenica told @AJEnglish it would be a defeat of humanity if the Republika Srpska forms an army that committed a genocide.
His father, both grandfathers, four uncles and other relatives were killed during the #Srebrenica genocide.
Munira Subašić, president of the Mothers of Srebrenica association said the current situation reminds her of the 1990s before the war broke out:
"Dodik is doing his job, he’s not going back, but the international community which betrayed us in 1995 is trying to betray us again."
On this day 29 years ago, my family fled #Jajce together with thousands of other families after the Army of Republika Srpska seized the city. I was one year old.
Today, my mum asked me if we will have to flee again, stressing she saw identical red flags three decades ago.
🧵
Three decades ago, the people of Jajce didn't believe the war would happen even though the Yugoslav National Army soldiers dug trenches around the city.
Today, Milorad Dodik & Co. are digging political trenches. I wouldn't like my generation commits the mistake our parents did.
The politicial situation in BiH is tense, and this is the first time EVER that I feel nervous about its (and my own) future.
I'm not surprised by the actions of nationalists aiming to stay in power even at the cost of war. I'm disappointed in the impotent int'l community.

His reply was abhorrent: "If you don't trust the EU, go somewhere else." 1/
Lajčak continued by saying: "It's trendy to criticise the EU about the visa liberlisation, but #Kosovo leaders should go to those countries blocking the freedom to travel and ask how to comply."
However, all the required benchmarks for visa lib have been delivered by Kosovo! 2/
It is extremely disturbing to read about the the current state secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of #Croatia, Zdravka Bušić taking part in #terrorist training and posing with fascist insignia in USA during the 1970s.
The photos of Zdravka Bušić and her friend Mercedes Škegro posing with guns and #Croat fascist insignia were taken by journalist Nikola Majstrović.
In 1977, he was tasked to make a documentary featuring Croat emigrants in USA, titled "The #Croats: Terrorists or Freedom Fighters"
During the 1970s, Zdravka Bušić was a member of the Croatian National Resistance (HNO), a fascist #Ustaša organization founded by Maks Luburić, a Croat fascist who headed the system of concentration camps in the Independent State of #Croatia (NDH) during much of the WWII.
