Almost to Jeff City to fight MO GOP’s attack on public ed. The hearing for these 3 bills is at 8 am. If that’s not enough of a gut punch, there’s a 9:15 hearing on #HB148 right down the hall that would arm MO teachers. If you’re not involved, now’s the time. #MoLeg @MomsDemand ImageImage
Ready to learn more and join us in this fight to end the gun violence epidemic in Missouri? Text READY to 644-33. @MomsDemand @Everytown #MoLeg Image
Are you a student/have a student that wants to get involved and make Missouri a safer place? Text STUDENTS to: 644-33 to learn more about @StudentsDemand. Have classmates that are interested in starting a Students Demand Action of their own? Text GROUP to 644-33! @MomsDemand ImageImage

Rep. Richie is presenting his “parent’s bill of rights.” Richie’s 1st reason for parents having more say in public ed than administrators is because parents know their children’s birthday, while administrators don’t. He also states that adults can’t name their childhood teacher.
Rep. Richie claims that teachers and administrators who are doing it right aren’t threatened by this bill. He then states that anyone who testified against it is questionable. I have some thoughts about that, but I woke up way too early to get thrown out of the hearing.
Rep Nick Schroer, who claims he learned accurate history when he was in school (I have thoughts about that as well), is presenting a similar bill. You can view Representative Nick Schroer’s #HB1474 here: house.mo.gov/billtracking/b…
Representative @IanMack03007724, while speaking on the problems with these bills points out that most of us had a very different education experience from Rep Richie in that he remembers all of his teachers. Rep. Mackey then proceeds to name off every teacher he had. I concur!
Rep Mackey, along with every other pro-education lawmaker asks again that we let teachers teach, and let the students learn. Rep Mackey also reminds the bill sponsors that education is a discussion, not just a teacher reciting information. We learn the most from discussions.
Representative @Dogan4Rep speaks on how deep this legislation goes. That under this bill, teachers could very likely be banned from teaching about slavery, among many other important parts of our history.
Hearing room is full and the overflow area is packed. There is an entire army here to testify against this legislation. When it came time for testimony, Rep. Basye called Ashley Lawson in from overflow to speak 1st. Lawson is with MO Prosper, the org trying to dismantle public ed
Heather Flemming is currently testifying against this awful legislation. “You speak about not wanting a neo-marxist education. Well I don’t want my kids and students learning neo-fascist education.” @HeatherFSpeaks @EquityMissouri @inpurposeea
Going back up a couple of tweets, Ashley Lawson, who came out of the Concerned Parents of Rockwood and is now with Missouri Prosper, was pulled in to testify first. This is Lawson in “concerned parents” attacking the finances of a newly hired Black administrator. Image
A little story time on the group No Left Turn In Education, that is here in support of this dangerous legislation. Andy Wells is the leader of the Missouri chapter. Wells is invested in destroying public ed in MO with a side of gun fetish and anti-transgender propaganda. ImageImage
Linked here is the 59 page playbook “No Left Turn” put together explaining how they plan on dismantling public ed in Missouri. Page 2 lists all of the MO school boards they plan on taking over. cdn.fbsbx.com/v/t59.2708-21/…
Andy Wells is incredibly active in every district’s extremist Facebook group. Currently he is sharing a spreadsheet he created in these hate groups that names and targets every MO educator that signed a pledge to teach the truth. This is his description. ImageImage
I will not share “No Left Turn” spreadsheet, as it targets educators, but linked below is the @ZinnEdProject pledge that these brave educators signed. zinnedproject.org/news/pledge-to…
Speaking of Andy Wells with “No Left Turn In Education.” He just testified in favor of censoring Missouri educators. I apologize for the poor sound quality. I’m now in the overflow room filled with people opposed to these bills, and we’ve started adding our own commentary. 😬
Laura Horowitz with @westoriesstl: “Many white parents fear what will happen if they talk with their children about race and it goes bad, but what happens when it goes well?”

“Don’t take this opportunity away from Missouri children.”

1/Amy Krebs (changed fb name to Amelia HK) is one of the more vile parents against equity in Rockwood. When I oppose book banning/limiting kid’s learning, I’m called pro-rape/incest/molestation.

Speaking as someone who was brutally raped at 16, those accusations hit different ImageImage
2/ It’s sad when people like Amy Krebs throw these words around w/o a second thought. I suppose it’s safe to assume that she’s never been sexually assaulted w/ a loaded gun held to her head. People need to be willing to see the world beyond the tip of their nose. (Also Krebs👇🏻) ImageImage
3/ That’s why we’re in this awful position. Equity in education benefits ALL children. Parents have to be willing to look beyond their small world. Dismissing death threats that Black administrators have received is inexcusable. ImageImageImage

1/ A friendly reminder that none of us should be shocked if Kyle Rittenhouse comes out of this trial completely unscathed. Even if you set aside our long history of a failed justice system, look no further than the actions of Judge Bruce Schroeder leading up to this trial.
2/ In Sept. the judge ruled that prosecutors can’t argue that a man who shot 3 people during a protest against police brutality is affiliated with the Proud Boys. Rittenhouse was at a bar with members of the white nationalist group’s Wisconsin chapter hours after posting bond.
3/ Days later, Rittenhouse traveled to Miami to meet & have lunch with the Proud Boys’ national president. Prosecutors argue that Rittenhouse has adopted the Proud Boys’ philosophy and was looking to perpetuate violence in Kenosha. The judge denied allowing this info in trial.

Covid is raging in Missouri. We are the national hot spot. MO has the 3rd highest rate of gun deaths, and we haven’t funded Medicaid expansion.

In spite of this, we are here in the Capitol at a public hearing for Critical Race Theory, where public testimony isn’t allowed. #MoLeg
We’re approximately 3 minutes into the first testimony, and right-wing extremist Dr. Mary Byrne has already thrown out Marxism and leftist extremism.
A spox from MO DESE testifies that #CriticalRaceTheory is not being taught in #Missouri k-12 schools. He also points out that the low % of Black and Brown educators compared to the higher % of Black and Brown students needs to be improved. ALL children need representation. #MoLeg

1/ This isn't easy, but you need to know why State Senator Andrew Koenig (MO SD 15) is the wrong choice. At the age of 16, I was raped at gunpoint. Koenig's policies have only benefited my attacker and others like him and harmed me and other survivors. @MomsDemand
2/My attacker was under the age of 21 when he held a loaded gun to my head on that cold night. Andrew Koenig supported lowering the age to obtain a concealed carry permit from 21 years old to 19 years old. He supported my attacker legally owning a firearm. bit.ly/34SSteU
3/ Last session, Koenig supported giving kids guns w/o parent consent. The reason was it wouldn't be fair to grandparents who wanted to take their grandkids hunting for squirrels. Again, his policies make it easier for my attacker to acquire a firearm. fxn.ws/329RmWJ

Just circling back to this to let y'all know that I crushed the 15 y/o at Among Us! 🤣🤣🤣
My husband and I haven’t been on a date outside of the house in 8 months. We have 2 high risk kids and high risk parents. We finally snuck away for a couple of hours for a much anticipated night out. Want to know what crazy, wild thing we did?... Image
We planted more yard signs at polling places. The reason we haven’t been out is due to incompetent, ineffective leadership from the top down. We wanted to spend our time doing everything in our power to get the word out about the incredible candidates who have a recovery plan...

As high rates of gun violence is discussed by Missouri’s Governor Parson, there is no mention of the fact that MO has some of the weakest gun laws in the nation. #moleg @MomsDemand
You cannot refuse to regulate firearms, even in the most minuscule ways, while complaining about increasing gun violence and loss of life.
As Parson calls a special session to address violent crime, I am hopeful that our lax gun laws will be addressed. Unfortunately the @MissouriGOP has refused to act without approval from the NRA.
