21 things you need to know about people if you want influence:
1. People don't care about the team or the greater good-they care about themselves

If you want people to see things your way, you need to show them what is in it for them.
2. People all follow a hierarchy of needs

In order, the needs are:

- Physiological (food and clothing),
- Safety (job security, not being killed),
- Love and belonging needs (friendship),
- Esteem (accomplishments),
- Self-actualization (potential)
3. People act differently when they are stressed

When people are in a bad mood, every idea sounds like a bad idea.

Master the Art of timing is one of the 48 Laws of Power for a reason. Read the room before making requests.
4. People will support the things they help create

Give people a voice, and they will march with you into battle.

Make every project feel like "Our" project.
5. People want to be challenged

People want to know you believe in them enough to challenge them to get better.

As long as they know you care, they will welcome constructive candor.
6. If you are always there to rescue someone, they will always need you to

Solving problems for people will only encourage them to bring you more problems.

Instead, use these moments as opportunities to help them solve problems for themself.
7. People want things to be simple

Giving people a ton of options is a great way to be told no.

Always give people the one best option available. Be ready to address concerns and explain why you feel the provided option is best instead of changing your solution.
8. Mirroring Works

Want to build rapport with someone quickly? Subtly match their body language in conversation.

Once you notice them starting to match your own body language, you will know a connection has been formed.
9. People need to believe in something

Do these things, and people will follow you:

- Create something to believe in
- Play to emotions
- Stay optimistic
- Start an "Us vs Them" narrative

(I hate seeing how well this works)
10. Build on Strengths

People love hearing what they do well.

When you need someone to change, start by emphasizing what they do well before addressing an opportunity.

This approach will encourage people to continue working for and with you.
11. Be curious, not critical

If you want to be accepted or make a new connection, show a genuine interest.

- Ask open-ended questions
- Restate phrases to show you are listening
- Dig into topics you notice excites them

You make friends by being interested in other people.
12. People love hearing their name

"The average person is more interested in their own name than in all the other names in the world put together."

A lot of money is spent by people looking to have buildings named after them...

Remember names and use them often.
13. You'll never win an argument

People remember how we made them feel, not what we taught them.

Even when you win an argument, you still lose.
14. Nobody wakes up and decides to be terrible at what they do

If people are struggling and not following through on expectations, taking time to figure out what is going on will go a lot further than immediately yelling.

Empathy is king.
15. It doesn't take long for people to show you who they are

When people show you who they are, believe them and take the appropriate action.

Don't waste time fitting a square peg in a circle hole.
16. Some people want praise for hard work; others want praise for accomplishments

Knowing what people want, will allow you to be who you need to be to get the best out of them.

Be aware of what moves your team.
17. Nothing happens without trust

Trust is a combination of character and competence.

To develop trust, you need to show you are a person of integrity and able to fulfill every commitment you make.
18. People admire leaders who support their development

Here is how you do it:

- Be available
- Challenge them to get better
- Tell them you believe in them
- Give with no strings attached
19. Most people don't believe in themselves

People come from homes where they are taught they are nothing.

You don't know what kind of situation a person is going home to.

If you see potential in someone, TELL THEM!
20. People will work harder when they can see victory approaching

You can help people see their own victory by reminding them of their past success and being there to support them when they fail.
21. People won’t act when they are scared

People fear what others will think. They are worried their hard work will be wasted. They get nervous about standing out from the crowd.

If you want to create you, need to help others see how your path is the safest option available.
I appreciate the love everyone.

If you got value from this, an RT on the first post is appreciated.

Is Jack right about ETH? Who cares.

Use this 4 step process to avoid DeFi conversations this holiday season:
1. Express Empathy

It is crucial to start here. Even though you aren't interested in the conversation, start by acknowledging their passion for the subject.

“Oh wow. I can tell you’ve invested a ton of time in this subject. I admire that commitment.”
2. Redirect With a Question

Once you've shown them you are on their side. You are in a prime position to change the focus of the conversation with a question.

“What other passion projects have you been working on?”

A team that can execute will put money in your pocket and make your job look easy.

As a leader, I struggled with execution for years until I found this simple framework:
Step 1: Clear Communication

Before you get started, take time to plan out this entire framework.

You need your team to understand the expectations from start to finish.

Layout what the expectations are at every level and how you will measure success.
Step 2: Clarify Expectations

Don't assume people understand the expectations. Ask them their plan so they can be sure everyone is on the same page.

Be sure your processes are documented, and your managers can demonstrate the expectations.

I've been developing leaders for the last 5 years.

Bad leaders all struggled for different reasons.

The best leaders all focused on these 7 principles:
The Flywheel

Building a great team is like pushing a flywheel. It's really tough at first but builds momentum with each push.

Take this approach with your team, do the hard things now that will make your life easier in the future.
Radical Candor

Radical Candor means you care personally and challenge directly. It is how you build trust. (Shout out @kimballscott)

Care Personally by being empathetic and grateful.

Challenge Directly by being straightforward and sincere with your feedback.
