...it's that they have a political, ideological plan for education, and this very bad curriculum is designed to further that.
The curriculum has overwhelming numbers of "outcomes" at each grade level, much of which has to do with rote memorisation. 2/6

And teachers' salaries and job security is now tied to their students' ability to regurgitate all these facts they were supposed to memorize, on standardized tests at each grade level. 3/6
Do the UCP not know that most of the facts they want kids to memorize can easily be looked up on a cell phone or computer? Of course they know that. So, why then, is this kind of learning the overwhelming focus of the new curriculum? 4/6
It's quite simple really. They want to make sure that teachers and students are far too busy memorising things to actually address things like critical thinking, current events, and all those interpersonal skills Kenney has decried as socialist. 5/6
Things like compassion, empathy, justice, fairness. They want to tightly control what goes on in classrooms, what kinds of conversations teachers can have with students, and what kind of citizens emerge after 12 years of schooling. 6/6
