Some napkin math on non-icu healthcare capacity.
Disclaimer: I know pts come and go.
Napkin math.
On 01/11 there were ONLY 159 UNOCCUPIED Non-ICU beds in all of #Alberta (screenshot below from @GoAHealth website).

By 01/14 COVID inpts were reported at 741 (likely to be revised see @joevipondmd thread below)
Reducing those beds to ~ 118. Even with potential pts discharges this is alarming. Especially given the massive revisions to patient numbers this week.
I don't know their names, I don't know their stories.
But I know they were #Albertans I know they were someone's neighbour, someone's best friend, someone's partner, and someone's family. I know they were one of us. A member of our community. I know they were loved.

I know it shouldn't be this way. I know we can protect each other. I know we have the tools.
We need to start using them. Normalizing the loss, is not normal. Living with #COVID19AB is not living, it is killing and collapsing and crushing.

Our society is not serving its citizens. Our citizens are being sacrificed for an ideologically driven narrative that has turned our losses into statistics. Policy is handing out death sentences, and I refuse to understand why. #ableg
