My name is Noeleen Cox @Coxy26094374 and I am sharing about the recent and ongoing experience of my pregnant granddaughter who was recently diagnosed with covid19 in regional country SA. I am disgusted and angry 😡with SAHealth and the SAGovt and how they have treated Aboriginal
country covid patients who have been flown to Adelaide to be quarantined in a covid Medic hotel.
My grand daughter is 3 months pregnant with her first time pregnancy. She was held overnight in a health facility in Ceduna and then flown in the morning from Ceduna with 8 other
covid positive people on a charter plane and landed at Parafield Airport located in the northern suburbs of Adelaide . She felt sick and faint in the plane flight over. There were also other people on the plane with chronic health illnesses. On arrival nobody was there to pick
them up. The pilot took them over to the general area as he didn’t know what to do with the patients either. They sat there from 11:45am to 2pm without having lunch and water. A man arrived at 2pm in full protection gear.
He didnt expect all of them and didn’t know where they were all going. NO accomodation was organised for them NO one told them what was happening. The patients asked for food and water and he went away to get it but only came back with water. At 2:15 a bus came .
They were transported to Toms Court Medi Hotel in the Adelaide CBD. They sat In the bus and then were quickly ushered into their rooms two by two. Toms Medi Hotel provides 2 meals only breakfast and dinner.
This group of people have not eaten since early that morning and we’re all hungry. My granddaughter speaks to the Wellbeing check in person on the phone about 4:30ish. They just ask the same questions as the Covid Tracer team. And only asks her how many weeks
pregnant she is. She tells this man that she feels faint and not well so asked to order food and the man said yes. So she orders the food on the phone at 4:40pm and it arrives at the reception at 5pm. She rings to ask to have it delivered to the room and the lady at reception
says it will be delivered at 6pm when it’s dinner time. She rings back and says I’m hungry and I’m not feeling well can I have my food and the woman says at 6pm when it’s dinner delivery and hangs up. So my granddaughter who is pregnant hasn’t eaten all day, is feeling faint and
with a head ache has to wait till 6pm to get her delivery with her dinner meal. She rings reception to ask for Panadol at 4pm and they said yes we will bring it up. She is still waiting for the Panadol to be delivered to her room.
Meanwhile feeling not well, stressed and worried about what’s going on whose going to care for her in this covid hotel. She says she’s would have been better off staying in Ceduna.
I am angry 😡 😡😡, I am concerned that a young new mother who is 3 months pregnant with covid and has had a day of hell and not one health practitioner has done a check over her.
SHAME on you SA Health.!! Why is she in the Covid hotel and not in a hospital? Who cares for individuals specific patient needs.? Why are country Covid patients treated like this.
Or is this only an Aboriginal thing.!!! What does this mean for other country patient’s. This shit needs to be urgently sorted out!!
UPDATE:: I rang to check on her at 10:15pm to see if the Panadol was delivered and still NO!! I had advised her to ring the reception again, so she did at 10:20pm and said ‘i am not well if you do not help me I will ring 000. At 10:25pm it was delivered to her room.
Absolutely DISGRACEFUL 😡😡 I have written letters and reported to Health. Not anyone has made contact with my granddaughter or myself about the situation. No one has provided a health check on her and her baby since Wednesday last week.
As for meals this Medi hotel only provides breakfast and Dinner. You need to provide your own lunch meal by ordering your own meal. Too bad if you don’t have money or own a phone or know how to use apps. You will starve in this Medi Hotel.
The other Medi Hotel at Pullman provides 3 meals as a day for their patients. These Medi Hotels are not culturally inclusive, language inclusive and do not provide chronic health care for people with diabetes, drug and alcohol, heart disease, babies and expectant mothers.
Aboriginal peoples individual health and well-being will deteriorate further in these places and this is not even addressing how to care for yourself when you have Covid-19. The photo below is the breakfast for an expectant mother at the Toms Court Medi Hotel Adelaide.
