COVID infection rates have dropped since the December holiday season but are still higher in many areas than last fall. But institutions from schools to businesses have essentially told workers "So what" go back and risk your long term health and potentially worse
This is driven by a naive desire to return to "normal" even as the Omicron Variant has become prevalent. Of the over 20 people I know personally who've contracted COVID in the last month all of them are vaccinated and most were boosted and range from 16 to 52
Privately people are simply making thier own rules up because thier employers don't care and honestly the crisis in confidence in authorities and employers is likely at an all time low. Who can trust a boss that puts them at risk unnecessarily?
A friend of mine & faculty member said "At this point it's like we're all in a science experiment and they're just going to see what the results are in a few years." It's a grotesque example of the nihilism many people have adopted in the face of corporate and institutional greed

I'll believe it when I see it. There are a few misconceptions about why there haven't been any black majority owners in the #NFL - A short thread on why it hasn't happened before....
While the process of #NFL ownership can be a bit murky here are the main requirements. 1. You have to have between 30-40% of the team value up front AND be able to buy out the next 2 largest investors. Considering the average team is about 3 billion that's a lot of liquid income
In most cases your ownership group can't be more than 24 people, which means the price of buying out anyone who backs out of the deal is immense
Finished #Yellowjackets - Am I missing something here? Because the framing it set up for Jackie to be the 'mean girl' but I absolutely empathize with Jackie and think that Shauna is a horrible friend and person. (Minor spoilers in thread but the finale was 4 days ago 🤷♂️)
There's a sort of lazy trope in TV that the viewer is supposed to dislike the "popular mean girl" but by all accounts Jackie wasn't any more cruel or petty than anybody else. Just popular and a good team captain
At least Jackie #Yellowjackets was her authentic self obnoxious or not. Shauna is the passive aggressive parasite who blames her popular friend for her own inability to find herself. In fact, I think Shauna is probably the real villain of the show
#Yellowjackets Lisa & Akilah are written horribly. I'm used to black characters in these majority white shows being written in ways that don't resemble black people anywhere at anytime. But the lack of depth and development for a couple who take up so much screentime is horrible
*Taissa*
Even in 2022 "prestige tv" tokenism is still present. You have a happily married black lesbian couple, where Taissa is running for office...And NO discussion of race, gender of sexuality? She doesn't meet w/ local LGBTQA groups? Or Black organizations? It's ludicrous
#Seahawks twitter us a funny space. The same folks who were screaming to bench Wilson for Geno after the Packers game were saying this team has a chance ywo weeks later when he won against the 49ers. Maybe the team/coaching is bad and it's not all on the QB 🤷🏿♂️
Debates over what constitutes an "Elite quarterback" and a "Quarterback you can win a superowl with" are completely driven by pre-existing biases about QBs which - Hate to say it - are filtered through race class and culture lenses.
Jimmy G was one quarter away from beating Mahomes in the SB. Is he a "Quarterback you can win a SB with?" It's all incredibly subjective and the biases in commentary, especially when it comes to black quarterbacks, makes most sports analysis hard to stomach
Baby Shark is like Back That Ass Up for 3rd graders 😅
- @AbbottElemABC
Btw there's already been a reference to Zach Ertz - Which is a pretty good #Eagles deep cut for a show based in Philly #AbbottElementary 👍🏿
If Donovan McNabb makes an appearance by the end of the season @quintabrunson will have surpassed the writers of @alwayssunny in making the most Philly-centric sitcom in history 😂 @AbbottElemABC
The issue here is that white Americans in the center/ left cannot win elections w/out a coalition with the primary victims of systematic racism. They resent this dependency so they resort to attacking the victims (Black folks) or allying with the perpetrators of the violence
Democrats can't win without 90% black voters and high turnout. Centrist democrats respond by blaming #Wokeness which is code for "The Black's have too much power" thus thier fantasy of holding on to an increasingly small and disinterested share of "working class whites"
The Very Online Far Left has been even more blatant. They openly court Insurrectionists & Bigots under the guise that class unity can build a workers coalition and resent when black people point out that these groups do not WANT a coalition that includes full black participation
