As much as we would love there to be, there are no quick fixes for persistent pain.

Mind you, there are no quick fixes or hacks for any of the important things in life: health, wellness, career, relationships.

They all take time, effort, energy, patience, perseverance, compassion and presence.

Step by step.

With plateaus when nothing seems to change—it is changing but you just don’t notice.

Whilst there are no quick fixes for pain, there are many many practices, tools, strategies and ways to overcome pain and shape a positive future.

BTW, I don’t think you need fixing anyway. You are not a machine. You are a human being who wants to reconnect with what matters and live your best life.

What are they?

Your approach.
Attitude.
Intent.
Effort.
To create the conditions for positive change.

The last one is key. Whatever we are doing now, the choices we make, are creating the conditions for what will come. Either way.

So bringing conscious awareness to what you are doing offers great advantages over the opposite.

When it comes to overcoming pain, you can create the conditions for feeling better.

You can’t directly change pain. There’s no button to press!

And relief is always in the future. I am in pain now, but these actions I take can bring about future relief. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

There is a dynamic at play. Things are always changing—impermanence.

Who have been my influences?

Pain Coaching adapted from strengths & positive approach. What is that all about?

Understand your lived experience.

Then…

Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want!

What can you do? Let’s build on it.

Use your positive history

👇
PC sees a whole person with strengths and potential to shape a positive future.

A person who lives a particular life in their lived world.

Opportunities over obstacles.

Possibilities over problems.

Play to strengths, manage weaknesses.

All very practical 👍

I have never understood the thinking behind dismissing people’s experiences as psychological. Some even imply unreal by this.

It is a person that suffers. They have a body. Their experiences are embodied.

Their experiences are their experiences. Their reality.

Cont.
Tests reveal nothing of note.

Why just assume that it must then be psychological? Or psychosomatic?

Why not consider the tests as unfit for purpose?

There is always a biology going on.

Maybe the tester does not have the knowledge.

That’s ok to admit.

Cont.
Refer to someone who may have an understanding.

Too many people are still dismissed.

One is too many.

As a society we can do better.

We must.

Especially in the light of Long Covid.

This is an opportunity to re-think.

Going on a health care placement?

A thread of tips.

#thepaincoach #pain
1. Decide to enjoy the placement

You can set your intent.

Perhaps you have some ideas as to how you are going to approach it.

Your attitude, enthusiasm, willingness etc.
2. See everything you can

When I trained to be a nurse, I made it my business to get around.

I loved the learning.

And seeing as much as I could.

Volunteered for everything.

Unbelievable experiences.

Mainly learning about human behaviour under difficult circumstances.

A thread of key principles to overcome pain.

Of course there are other considerations.

But this is a start.

#thepaincoach #pain #Thread

👇
Understand your pain and symptoms.

A clinician or therapist should be able to help you. They must understand pain themselves and be able to explain it to you, making it personal and giving meaning to your lived experience.

#thepaincoach #pain
Be consistent with your practices through the day.

They could incl movement, specific exercises, ways to create calm, being present, coping skills, skills of being well.

There’s much more you can do in addition, so not limited to the above.

Plus, you’ll have your own ways.
