I cut the most tense part of the interaction - here it is - I think it's really important that we look at the behaviour of both the convoy members and the counter demonstrators - while de-escalation is necessary, we need to be familiar with what escalation looks like: /3

The counter demonstrators, in my view, did the right thing - held their ground but didn't escalate - the behaviour of the convoy member assaulting the counter protester is typical Proud Boy behaviour (not saying he was affiliated) - intimidate with size, sound /4

Given that these events are still cropping up and the Emergencies Act isn't going away anytime soon, the role of counter demonstrators is complicated as we are seeing charges being equally applied - I'm assuming the counter protester was charged with obstruction/traffic /5

But counter demonstrations are necessary and play a key role in fighting fascism in the long run. They aren't scared of cops, they are scared of community /6
