November 2013: President Yanukovych of Ukraine decides to suspend the signing of the association agreement with the EU, sparking what is known as the Maidan Revolution, which is then brutally suppressed.

Beginning on February 27, 2014, hooded Russian soldiers wearing no insignia begin seizing control of all strategic points inside #Crimea.

On March 16, 2014, a so-called referendum on independence and accession to #Russia is held in Crimea. This illegal annexation is not recognized by the international community.

In March 2014, Russian-controlled armed groups wearing no insignia begin lending support to demonstrators calling for independence in the #Donetsk and #Luhansk regions located in the Donbas, in eastern Ukraine.

On May 11, 2014, de facto entities in the “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) and the “Luhansk People’s Republic” (LPR) proclaim their independence following a so-called referendum.

Held outside of the framework laid down by Ukrainian legislation and marred by numerous irregularities, this vote is judged illegal by #Ukraine and is not recognized by the international community (including the Russian Federation, at the time).

Talks are held between June 2014 and February 2015. On the occasion of D-Day commemorations, a series of diplomatic meetings are held between Ukraine and Russia in what is known as the “Normandy Format,” under the auspices of France and Germany.

Negotiations are held within the framework of the OSCE Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine and the Normandy Format. They culminate with agreements signed in #Minsk in 9/2014 and 2/2015.

In 2015, the parties begin negotiations with the goal of achieving a peaceful political resolution to the Donbas conflict, which has left more than 13,000 dead. Ceasefire violations are a regular occurrence along the line of contact.

On December 9, 2019, a summit held in Paris in the Normandy Format leads to the definition of a certain number of measures to improve the situation on the ground and facilitate the implementation of the Minsk Agreements.

Over the course of 2021, #Russia stations up to 150,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders.

On February 21, 2022, #Russia unilaterally recognizes the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of #Ukraine.

On February 24, 2022, Russia launches a large-scale military offensive throughout Ukraine.
