So when you’ve finished stating your opinion on Kenney’s dictator side show, please remember a Justice Minister who interferes with administration of law enforcement has attempted to obstruct Justice.

Which in Canada, and Alberta, remains a crime.

Kenney is permitting corruption to define and represent his regime.

Scandal after scandal is bad enough.

Obstruction of Justice by the Alberta Minister of Justice, who is rewarded with a new cabinet post is a bridge too far. We cannot permit this to get lost in a news cycle or a temper tantrum by Kenney to get our attention focussed elsewhere.

Obstruction of justice is a crime.

It’s a federal crime.

An indictable offence with a maximum 10 year prison sentence.

It’s not an “oops”that deserves a tut tut and a new cabinet position.

DO NOT TURN AWAY FROM THIS CRIME.

While obstruction can be and indictable or summary offence, it’s highly unlikely a case can be made for a sitting Minister of Justice, a lawyer licenced to practice law, can be viewed as a summary offence.

An MOJ/Solicitor General in Alberta is responsible to uphold the law.

It’s the very top of the hierarchy in provincial administration of the Canadian Criminal Code and the expectations of those who hold the position are much stricter than the average Joe.

To treat it otherwise renders rule of law as a joke.

UCP, Jason Kenney and Kaci Madu have some explaining to do.

The attempt to ignore a crime committed by the Minister of Justice and then attempt to cover up the crime is a serious indication of corruption within provincial government ranks. It’s unconscionable and intolerable.

Yes. It was a traffic ticket. For driving distracted in a school zone.

The consequence was a traffic violation. That’s not the crime.

The crime was the attempt to pervert the issuance of the ticket by approaching the Edmonton Chief of Police.

This is a severe breach of public trust. But it’s also a criminal offence for a provincial Justice Minister to try to escape accountability for his own behaviour by asking the Chief of Police anything about the ticket in question. It’s political interference with law enforcement.

It’s not like there isn’t recent precedent. This example is from Newfoundland from 15 months ago. A Justice Minister/Attorney General of NFLD accused of political interference. Immediately investigated by the RCMP.

Was Parson’s investigated because it’s a serious crime? Or because he’s a Liberal accused by a conservative?

I don’t know enough about Parsons or Newfoundland politics to comment about his level of trustworthiness.

Do I think the leak about Madu was political?

Probably.

That doesn’t excuse UCP from covering up for 10 months the fact their MOJ committed a crime.

Nor does it excuse Kenney’s kid glove treatment of Madu and his ultimate reward of another cabinet position.

Which you’re being distracted from by the dictatorial heavy handed decree that municipalities under UCP don’t have sovereignty to make decisions about public health emergencies within their own boundaries.

If Kenney decrees everyone should get sick with Covid, how dare anyone dissent and actually attempt to protect people’s lives and health.

It’s a dirty trick. When real criminal scandals emerge, create a diversion by creating another scandal.

Trump did it almost daily.

And now Bumbles Magoo is using it to distract from Madu’s crime and appointment him to a cabinet position, not fire him on the spot from cabinet and from the party upon investigation and confirmation he committed an offence.

He’s just hoping the Russian Ukrainian war coupled with his ridiculous effort to remove all powers of self determination from elected mayors and council members (why do we need mayors and council if the province makes decisions) distracts the public long enough to forget.

Not on my watch Bumbles. I’m not going to let the Canadian electorate get distracted. I’m going to ask that they pay attention to the very real UCP move towards theocracy, criminal corruption and authoritarianism.
